- skinner bCork, Ireland65 contributionsStunning scenery, less crowded than Kerry and more reasonable prices, alot of surprises to be found.Written June 13, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Robert NManchester, UK107 contributionsVisited here today. It was well worth the drive from Bandon.
Don't be put off by the occasional negative reviews on here. Some of them probably arose only due to the problems caused by Covid. I saw nothing that merited such comments today. The house and gardens are well presented, the views of Bzntry Bay from thr front are inspiring, the cafe was good. The are about 10 rooms in the house you can visit, more than I was expecting.
They allowed me to play the piano on the middle landing. It was in a reasonable condition, the acoustics of its location were excellent, allowing the sound to drift through the public rooms. Some other visitors appreciated my efforts. (the lighting at this point could be improved perhaps). So thank you for that, by itself it merits my 5 star review.
I understand the family effort that must go into keeping this place running and financially viable.Written May 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WamesyTipperary, Ireland4 contributionsWe had the most memorable and wonderful experience on the short boat trip to the island as well as a very interesting guided historical walk and then back to the pub for a couple of drinks before boarding the boat back to Bantry. Both Tim and Kathleen were gracious hosts.Written December 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- louCorkMidleton, Ireland932 contributionsI read all about these stones and how hard they were to find but low and behold we were passing through Kealkill and saw the signs , followed them up a steep climb , very awkward to park there We climbed the stile and made our way to the stones , but the ground under foot was very wet and we didn't come prepared with wellington so we turned back . Worth a visitWritten October 8, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- LuxreslondonerEnfield, UK10 contributionsWe had an amazing trip into Bantry Bay with Bantry Bay Boat Hire yesterday. The sea was like a glass reflecting pool and the sun was shining. Bantry Bay is stunning, flanked by the Sheep’s Head and Beara Peninsulas, it is a beautiful sight from land, but the best way to really appreciate its biodiversity and splendour is from the water. John took us out to Whiddy Island, then some sea caves on the the Sheep’s Head side of the Bay. We then sat in the centre of the Bay, with the engine off and listened to the sounds of nature and admired the wonders of geology and the natural world all around us. We set off again and, for a little while, we thought we would not spot any significant wildlife-maybe it just wasn’t our day.
However, then John spotted a pod of friendly common dolphins and they soon came over to say “Hello”. Seeing these amazing creatures up close, in the wild and from the water level position that the rib allows you, is an amazing experience. They are as special as you would expect.
John then took us to the site of the devastation caused by the Whiddy Island disaster. The remnants of the piers and bridges now provide sanctuary for large numbers of sea birds.
We then headed towards Glengariff to have a look around Garnish Island. We were so lucky! John pointed out the sea eagles’ old nest from last year and was about to take us to see this year’s one, when we spotted a sea eagle perched on a tree, looking magnificent. As we were about to move on, we spotted the second eagle and it flew! It is a rare and wonderful sight. It made an already good trip, into a great one.
We then headed back to Bantry and dry land.
A shout out for John, our Captain, who was knowledgeable, helpful and charming. The safety briefing was thorough too.Written May 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
