Sutton Foster is an American actress, singer, and dancer. She is best known for her work on the Broadway stage, for which she has received two Tony Awards for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical. I happened to see Sutton as the Star To Be in Annie and thought she was wonderful. I remember how kind she was at the stage door when I told her she was wonderful as she snuck out alone, seemingly unknown. Later I would see her in her starting turn at Millie as I was studying musical theatre. I always felt we had similarities in our personal amities and our singing style. I wound up quitting theatre. I randomly found myself purchasing this book all these years later and this book brought me to tears… paralleling some of my own memories both as a fan and my experience of some of the harsh realities of the theatre world, as well as in the pain of family issues. I couldn’t put it down. And now I want to start crocheting again… Thank you, Sutton.

In reality, this is an autobiography that shows the sparkling, witty personality of the author. The story is beautifully introspective and gratefully I know no more about crochet than when I started the book. Sutton and her story are special.

I started to read this book because I craft and am also a painter. I’m a retired physician but started out wanting to be an artist. I hoped that reading Sutton’s book would help me to get past all of the things that prevent me from using my crafting/painting skills on a regular basis. I think that reading Sutton’s book will help me to deal with the creative “blocks” by sharing her life story and showing me how making things can help me to get past difficult points. Of course, first and foremost, I'm a crocheter so how could I not love the book? I also draw and paint and was a crazy scrappbooker for many years.
Sutton's memoir, "Hooked" is a heartfelt glimpse into the life of an amazingly talented woman. And as successful and...perfect...as she might seem, this is not a fairytale.
She has most definitely earned her successes.
I adore her...so much so that I wish I knew her (and I wouldn't say that about just any one, honestly.)
Bright and funny on television, breathtaking in song and dance numbers (I recently watched a taped version of "Anything Goes" on PBS), this book is a poignant story of how crafting in general, and crochet in particular, kept her grounded and able to find the strength to move forward through a surprisingly tumultuous childhood as well as stresses of fame and success.

I love this book, I can’t express how much. I am a massive Sutton foster fan and already knew a lot about her struggles and challenges she has faced. I too struggle with anxiety and I’m also a musical theatre student. She is my biggest inspiration in life and the reason I don’t give up on what I love.
