Rating 3.85 out of 5 678 reviews
My duration at Farmingdale State College has been overall quite pleasant. I found that the student life is vibrant and full of available fun activities. There is also a variety of areas with nice sceneries to enjoy with friends. Furthermore, I have been blessed with intelligent and collaborative professors thus far whom have always been able to provide a welcoming environment and office hours.
Some professors are better than others. As a business student, my math professors weren't that great. My Algebra II professor wasn't a great teacher. In his defense it was his first time teaching the course. If you asked me what I learned from the course, I wouldn't be able to tell you. Every test was open book and I still didn't understand. My accounting Professor only teaches from slides and we practice math from slides ONLY. I find myself teaching myself after class from the book because I never practiced in class. I took an in person course to avoid this. By history and English professors were the only ones that challenged me. I'm extremely disappointed. The changes I would like to see are for these teachers to stop coddling us. I am not a child and don't need anyone to hold my hand throughout my education.
Suny Farmingdale is surrounded by a very safe area. There's so much to do around it, so many different places to eat, and if you are a city resident you can take the train and there's a shuttle bus waiting to take you to school. The only downside is the face that it is truly a commuter school, they are always hosting different things trying to encourage the students to get out and hang around and I think they do a wonderful job when it comes to planning cool things for us, its just something is missing, the diversity could be better and everyone stays in cliques.
