Out of regard or respect for someone or oneself; for the benefit, advantage, or good of oneself or another person. For my own sake, I'm going to take a few extra days off at Christmas to spend with my family. For Jonathan's sake, we need to be sure to find a restaurant that is sensitive to peanut allergies. Even though you two are divorced now, you need to maintain an amicable relationship for the kids' sake.
