      Miniseries – Will

      2017 Drama List
56% Tomatometer 32 Reviews 100% Audience Score Fewer than 50 Ratings It's 1589 in Elizabethan England, where a young William Shakespeare arrives from the small town of Stratford to an electric London punk-rock theatre scene. This seductive, violent world inspires Will to dream big, but his budding talent faces rioting audiences, religious fanatics and raucous sideshows. Attracted to Will is the beautiful, rebellious Alice Burbage, who is forbidden by society from pursuing a career in the theater. However, a chance encounter leads Alice's brother Richard to team with Will to create what soon becomes the greatest actor-writer partnership the world has ever seen. The drama series, says TNT, is told in a bold, contemporary style and played to a modern soundtrack that exposes all of Shakespeare's recklessness, lustful temptations and tortured brilliance. Critics Consensus

A misguided attempt to dress up the life and times of Shakespeare, Will drowns in its own frothy mess.

Judy Berman Pitchfork ... the new TNT series is so enamored with its Punk Shakespeare concept, it barely has time to tell a story. Sep 21, 2017 Full Review Jo Livingstone The New Republic Why not cast Marlowe and Shakespeare and Burbage as handsome anti-heroes? And as long as the jokes keep coming thick and fast Will is, surprisingly, a seriously watchable morsel. Jul 21, 2017 Full Review Liz Shannon Miller indieWire Sure, it's fun to see Shakespeare get some; fortunately, Will manages to find depth beyond that. Rated: B+ Jul 11, 2017 Full Review Eric Thurm Esquire Magazine While Will is a bad addition to the canon of modern work about Shakespeare, it's a relevant addition to an even more important genre: dramas about hot versions of historical figures. Oct 17, 2018 Full Review Lacy Baugher The Tracking Board Will has triumphed over Topcliffe and arrived at a certain level of stardom, and everyone -- even Marlowe -- recognizes his skill. Jun 23, 2018 Full Review Ariana Romero Refinery29 Let's hope one day the stages of Will and the casting couches of Hollywood will seem like distant, impossible nightmares.
