A potentially great series ruined by one actor....
Christa Miller. I can't tell if they are a terrible actor or their cosmetic surgery is blocking any emotion, but every scene they are in just dies quickly...

To be fair, we have no idea what her actual face looks like.
I don't think it ruins the show, but yeah the cosmetic surgery really takes aways from some of her acting. For the life of me I can't understand why she would do that to herself, she was so beautiful. Not that she is ugly now, but come on, like someone else said, it looks like she is in pain everytime she talks.
Bill Lawrence's wife or not, that woman should sue her plastic surgeon. Most of them don't know that they're doing and yet women keep going back and getting their faces butchered.
And yes, it is tremendously unfair of him to put her in a show where she sticks out because of her alien features and bizarre look. It does a disservice to every actor with whom she must interact and it can't be too much fun for Christa Miller to see what a wreck her face has become.
Why did they cast her? She must have an amazing agent. Actors are supposed to emote and she can’t do that. Literally any actress around her age would be better. Any local theatre actress. Why cast her? Why?
It's her husband's show
Her face is wildly distracting. She looks like she has bells palsy...but it's def over filling and too much botox. Hollywood needs to stop trying to look young and just age like we do. Most people don't look like this, and it's not common place to see every day. I think because viewers live in the real world, whenever we see overly plastic actors, it distracts us from the show. I don't even know what she is saying half the time because I am just noticing her lips and her heavily edited cgi face. They def are doing something to make her face look younger on top of her cosmetic work. Who cast her?
She's married to Bill Lawrence, so I'm assuming he cast her 😉. She was also in Cougar town and Scrubs
I saw that, it definitely makes sense
I find botox so distracting. Had to stop the show Lucifer because the female lead couldn't move her face. A friend of mine uses botox regularly (she's barely in her 20s) and I can't meet up with her when she's freshly done it because her facial expressions are so odd looking. It's like her face is desperately trying to move but the botox won't allow it. I see it with Christa as well, it's annoying.
I used to work with an artist who painted portraits, and she said that the brain in some can detect the most subtle plastic surgery/ work because it looks so unnatural to our brain. We can tell it is "alien." I always think about that. Plastic surgery rarely makes a person think, wow they are gorgeous. It makes you think "did they get a nose job?" Or whatever. Your eyes always zoom into what seems off to our brains.
Why are you referring to her as they and their ?
It’s much safer to do that here on Reddit since this site is so very far left. I was banned from another TV sub for using “her” in reference to a woman who wanted to be referred to as it. My coworker was banned from a sub for not knowing that an actress had changed her preferred pronouns again. You have to be careful.
lol, it's 2022
It’s 2023. Has she ever said she wanted to be called they? Genuine question. If not, it’s pretty weird to do that
Her Twitter says she/her
Cool, not something I need to research when insulting her :(.
Never would have guessed it by looking at her. Virtues signaling as unnecessary as her plastic face
Good point on the date, you win, pat yourself on the back there. They/them/their is a generic term that fits all if you don't know....they can correct you but you're less likely to offend.
It's funny how this is a problem with some, they/them is just polite plural and as you mentioned it can also be a general term when you don't feel like hunting down others' social. It's ridiculous that this is what they get so hang up about and not the actual content of your post.
because the english language
Christa Miller is a great comic actor, but the plastic surgery has really taken away her ability to make facial expressions, so her line delivery and timing isn't backed up by her face. Her appeal on some of the other shows like Scrubs is that she had great timing. But even a deadpan delivery needs a "live" face to make the jokes land. The other thing I find infuriating is weird, "hey, I'm young" jokes written into the script. The scene where she's walking the dog and talking about how he eats tampons. Typically 58 year old women don't get their period. I feel like they're trying so hard to signal that she's young and fertile, with the face, the odd jokes. . .and the fact that her husband is the head honcho makes it all that much more cringey. He's a great talent, and so is she. WHY are they kneeling at the alter of youth and beauty when being a great talent is so much more enriching??
It's one person, correct..?
In the scene with her, Gaby, and Jimmy all drinking/talking in episode 4, it looked like she was in pain every time she spoke
That is when I noticed the right side of her lip was pulled down. She cannot feel her face I believe.
I just found this subreddit because I googled almost this exact sentiment. I cannot fathom how she is still acting-her facial modifications are way, WAY too distracting. I looked into it because I just really didn't get it- and it turns out she's married to Bill Lawrence, who directed Scrubs, Cougar Town, and-shocker-Shrinking.
I'm absolutely in favor of casting older actresses-Christa is almost 60-but this much surgery or fillers or botox or whatever else is going on is absolutely prohibitive to their craft and is completely distracting in this series!!
I think she's giving a good performance but yeah I feel bad every time I look at her face
I agree it is a good performance. She really does seem to care about Alice.
They blur her cheeks in the show too. they are adding a really poor looking softening effect ONLY on her cheeks. Idk if she requested it? No one else in the show has that.
I don't think they are tbh. Provide an example?
i only picked up on it because its a feature used in another show i watch when they have to portray the actors younger.
A scene where its very apparent is in episode 4 when Gaby extends the olive branch to Liz after she overhears Jimmy blowing up at Liz. Its at the 23-24 minute mark. Its apparent because the camera view switches back and forth between a close up of Gaby and close up of Liz during their conversation. You can see real, like textured skin on Gaby. But Liz’s face (primarily the cheeks) have a softening effect applied.
ok, gotcha
100 percent they are blurring parts of her face, its really noticeable. She looks like AI
If Liz packed up her rocks and put her house up for sale I wouldn’t be sad. Her face is so distracting.
Ahh that's why I couldn't even look at her face, there really isn't any emotion and it's hard to read a face like that.

little itty bitty baby bitch bullshit.

Like IT is female?! What the actual fuck
She’s a good actress but that plastic surgery is very distracting.
She looks like she's wearing a Christa Miller mask to me.
She also has a new, fake, lazy lisp that a lot of actors seem to get as they get older. Leah Remini is a major one who all of a sudden got one out of nowhere & good ol', "back, back, back, back" Chris Berman himself.
Had she always lisped? Or is it dentures or plastic surgery that interferes?
It's her being lazy and not moving the bottom part of her mouth/lip when she talks. So annoying because it doesn't happen all the time
I hate a fake lisp!
I loved scrubs but I didn’t even recognize her until I heard her voice
literally can not even watch the show too busy pausing it and staring at her face..I had the same problem watching Jennifer Jason Leigh in Atypical...it was a good show but I was so distracted by the plastic surgery...I am all for doing what ever plastic surgery you want but at least find a great doctor! Call Jlo or any other 50 something beautiful actress and get referrals first...
Jeeeeeeeez, I typed "what the hell did Christa Miller do to her face?" into Google, and this discussion came up. Good to know I'm not crazy. She is hardly recognizable. How terribly, terribly sad that she thought she needed to do that to herself... How I wish we could see the alternate world where she had NOT done anything and see her naturally aged face, and prove to her that she WAS STILL beautiful, with the same face albeit with a few more wrinkles. I am pushing 61, and do not love my wrinkles, but seeing people like Christa literally wrecking their faces definitely squelches the urge in me to "get work done". I feel bad for her though... she's a victim of the real pressure on actresses (and I'm specifically using gender here... I do not think that men have the same pressure) not to let themselves age... so very many have fallen into that pit.
She doesn't even sound the same any more either. I was thinking it might be medical, not from plastic surgery.
