Ready to head back to the island? Jeff Probst is!
CBS‘ Survivor is (finally!) returning to screens for it’s 41st season, starting with a two-hour premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 22. But that’s not all. The network announced additional details Monday that are bound shake up the game for its money- and adventure-hungry new crop of castaways. (See cast photos below, and watch Probst’s preview video above.)
For starters, production has shortened its filming time from 39 days to a “much more dangerous” 26-day game, which will increase the pacing of its twists and overall gameplay. (Keep in mind: Building in production time for quarantining cast members is very much a thing these days.) Probst will also break the fourth wall, addressing the audience directly throughout the season to let us in on some of the twists well before the players are made aware.
Season 41 will additionally include a brand new interactive element. Fans can test their own skills at home by playing the new “Game Within the Game,” where they can find and decode rebus puzzles hidden inside the episodes.
“I cannot remember a time when I’ve been this excited to launch a new season of Survivor,” said executive producer and host Jeff Probst in a statement. “Survivor 41 features a really likable group of savvy Survivor players and they are in for the most intense, most difficult and most dangerous season we’ve ever done.”
If that wasn’t enough to light your (camp)fire, CBS has also released the names and photos of its diverse new cast, continuing to make good on the network’s promise that at least 50 percent of its reality contestants will be Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC).

Will that shortened game time lead to a reduced episode count, or will they just spend the same number of episodes covering fewer gamedays?
Since they still have 18 contestants, presumably there are the same number of challenges and Tribal Councils, so I suspect they are just compressing the game, not the episode count. They always had days where there was no immunity or reward challenge on the line. Should we assume that is where they made up the time?
Almost definitely the latter. I think the “dangerous” part is that there are fewer days off to rest and recover. It’s Tribal almost every night, less time to strategize between the immunity challenges and tribal. Australian Survivor episodes cover just 1-2 days per episode, so this sounds like they’re doing that. I hope that means things are easier to follow and less chaotic, Winners at War was rough because they were fitting sooooo much strategy plus the Edge into one episode.
One Tribal Council every two days instead of every three days.
So excited that Survivor has returned. From Wyoming so happy to see one of our own..😍😍
Interesting all around. Nice to see attempting to freshen things up.
A little lacking on the eye candy this season. I predict a ratings slump.
Hmm, I predict ratings will go up.
Sydney is stunning.
A “game within a game” so they’re going to lip synch for their legacy and have one person dominate just to get eliminated the next council?
Haha! Well played!
Can’t wait…LOVE, LIVE ,BREATH Survivor. We get the Australian version of it now..But you can’t beat the American one with Still looking dam HOT, JEFF PROBST.. Bring it on…STILL CANT Wait…And then our network probably won’t run it..We’ll have to wait and see.. Hi Boston Rob xxx love you too
I hope this is more exciting than Big Brother this season. Its worse than watching paint dry!
Agreed! Lol. Such a boring season!
So there is a cap on white players.
Imagine the uproar if it was the other way round!
There basically was for the past 40 seasons…
Well said, my friend.
No it was NOT…..they casted on the percentage of the population…..aka 50-50 are men and women
The pop. of USA is not 50 percent poc
It is called casting by the demo graphs
Considering the latest census (albeit unfinished because of Republicans cutting it short) shows that the white population of the US is around 60% AND the fact that different minorities deserve representation on TV, 8 out of 18 players being white is still a big majority on the show.
I think you’ll be okay. If you really care so much about misrepresentation and demographic percentages, perhaps you should care about how 60% of the US population is white but almost 80% of Congress is white. Talk about unbalanced representation in a place that it actually matters (unlike Survivor)….
But I’m sure you don’t give two poops about that one, do ya?
It’s a damn shame that a CBS exec had to put out a memo to ensure diversity. It’s an even bigger shame that you can’t absorb that there truly was a diversity issue in the first place. Change should occur naturally but after 40 seasons–it very obviously needed a push. We get it though. To you and those who think like you diversity = bad.
I’ll use a quote the fits you and those who think like you do. You have a Mad Men mentality in a Modern Family world.
The cast was casted on USA pop. stats
Most people who watch the show are white
So next thing yah, there should be a quota of African Americans on the BET Channel
Um, an exec from CBS insisted that cast for their unscripted shows needed to be 50% BIPOC. That’s why this happened. Google it!

Thank you Matt!
There’s still seven or eight white players out of 18. And as other people have pointed out, there’s been 40 seasons of mostly white people. I totally understand where you’re coming from, but even if there is some perceived “over-correction” for BIPOC voices right now in pop culture as far as population percentages go, is it really such a big deal for us white people to just stfu about it? For so long it’s been all about us. Let’s allow other people to have a voice for once, without us having to always comment on the face that others are even allowed to SPEAK.
I agree. Minorities are not 50 % of the population, so why are they 50’% of the cast?
I am soooooo excited Survivor is finally coming back! I’m also thrilled to see there are a couple of Canadian women competing this season 🙂
I have been a fan since season 1. Can’t wait for all the back stabbing, conniving game to start! Welcome back. ❤️
Am happy survivor is back !am ready for the twists and fun.love from KENYA
Survivor never really had a diversity problem, that was more big Brother.
I been waiting for my favorite show for a while now. Thanks. SURVIVOR #1 fan.❤❤❤
