The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 37 areas may still experience a heat index that is considered “dangerous” on Wednesday, May 15.
PAGASA warns that a dangerous heat index ranges from 42 degrees Celsius (°C) to 51°C, which means a person is more likely to experience heat-related issues like cramps and exhaustion and a higher chance of heat stroke with continued activity.
The heat index in Dagupan City, Pangasinan may reach 47°C, while it may reach 46°C in CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur and Roxas City, Capiz.
Meanwhile, Bacnotan, La Union and Virac, Catanduanes may experience a 45°C heat index.
PAGASA added that MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Aparri, Cagayan; Alabat, Quezon; Cuyo, Palawan; Masbate City, Masbate; Dumangas, Iloilo; Catarman, Northern Samar; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur may have a heat index of 44°C.
Meanwhile, a 43°C heat index may be recorded in Ninoy Aquino International Airport Station in Pasay City; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; ISU, Echague, Isabela; Iba, Zambales; Sangley Point, Cavite; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; Coron, Palawan; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Aborlan, Palawan; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Catbalogan, Samar; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
A heat index of 42°C may also be recorded in Science Garden, Quezon City; Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Cubi Pt. Subic Bay, Olongapo City; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; Daet, Camarines Norte; Legazpi City, Albay; Mambusao, Capiz; Guiuan, Eastern Samar; Maasin, Southern Leyte; and Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte.
On April 28, Iba, Zambales recorded the highest heat index this year at 53°C.
