For a perfect getaway, or to recharge your healthy habits, or to incorporate some well-being into your life, or to get energized, or for a pure, indulgent, pampering trip...get yourself to Ananda in the Himalayas and you might easily achieve it all.
Set against the backdrop of the smoky Shivalik range with the snow-capped Himalayas in the majestic distance, the hotel is strategically located behind the beautiful Maharaja's palace.
The spa boasts of a multitude of treatments performed by therapeutic and skilled therapists. The treatment rooms invoke a zen-like atmosphere further enhanced by the gentle and professional masseuses.
The food is fresh, flavorful and healthy. The chef is present at all times to take in your requests and offer suggestions as per your goals and health requirements. I loved the daily herbal concoctions available in the restaurant for the effective purpose of detoxing, energizing or digesting.
The staff are polite and courteous and eager to help. Everyone is approachable and happy to be of service. You are always made to feel welcome.
The hotel organizes a beautiful excursion down to the holy city of Rishikesh for a memorable Aarti by the banks of the revered Ganga river. It is an extraordinary outing worth experiencing.
Available at the hotel are informative and relatable Vedanta classes that are talks on spirituality. These simple but profound talks appeal to the layman and offer straightforward tools and techniques in leading a more fulfilling life. They also have talks and workshops offered by visiting masters.
There is plenty to do at Ananda and it is also the perfect place to do nothing. You can immerse yourself in the surrounding beauty and that in itself is a good enough reason to visit Ananda in the Himalayas.

This is our 3rd Visit.

We really enjoy coming to the above Property.

The Hotel provides packages for 7 / 14 nights and so forth based on the treatment you like ( I.e. wellness, weight loss etc)

Food is accustomed as per you diet requirement and all very healthy and fresh.

Ananda has an excellent Spa with truly the best Ayurvedic Massages

The rooms are bit tired, requires updating, with Modern equipment and up requires grading the amenities.

However the service provided by ALL staff is excellent and first class.

They certainly go out of their way to accommodate you on all.

We have always stayed here for 2 weeks and you certainly feel you have achieved the best for yourself.

Highly recommended.

I have come four times to Ananda, a sumptuous palace with a SPA, service and perfect cuisine ... little by little the clientele has changed, menu and computer site in just two languages: English and Russian ... the clientele has become bling bling, speaking loud and clear, far from the tranquility of yesteryear, significant price difference for Indian Residents and Foreigners, room prices and packages still on the rise with significant taxes. In short, from the calm, zen and serene Ananda, the clientele transformed it into a noisy place, without education, which no longer makes me want to go back there despite the 4 trees that I planted the day I left…. good luck and try to turn to a more European or Anglo-Saxon clientele by also adjusting your prices (your personnel costs are far behind the costs of large European palaces)

ps: curious these comments without real foreign editors, that small contributors of 1 to 20 comments only per person whereas the clientele is international?

Dear Guest, Namaskar! Thank you for visiting Ananda last year and sharing your candid feedback on Tripadvisor. We are glad to know about your patronage to us over the years. We respect your personal observations on the change in our guests and impact on your stay experience. Ananda remains a place of tranquility for all who visit and we respect the cultural diversity amongst our guests. We have been fortunate to host many guests from overseas, however we have always had equal extend of guests from within India. We do extend special offers to encourage guests residing in India to use our service and offerings. Our communication in a foreign language is to assist guests in regions where English is not a common language. We have established and maintain enhanced measure of safety for Covid 19 at a significant expense, including having our guest services and Wellness teams reside on premises, which is not a norm with most establishments. Being a regular patron of Ananda, I hope you would appreciate that Ananda remains a bespoke experience where guests come to seek peace and harmony ; hence we may not be suitably compared to other global destinations. In closing, may I thank you again for your patronage and taking time to share your feedback. We look forward to being of service in future. Best regards, Aniket Sarkar General Manager

A completely different world to experience! The road leading to the property itself gives a taste of the experience about to come, and the experience is fantastic!
In these time of Covid, it proved to be a perfect escape from the city and for some rejuvenation.

To preface, the staff is beyond excellent, the service is extraordinary. They are courteous, polite, compensating to our needs and demands, and are clearly well-trained.

The rooms are spacious and have all the basic requirements. They provide about 10 different pillows, and although we chose to use none of them, it's a nice touch. The bed might be a little uncomfortable for some. The complimentary daily immunity boosters served are unique and tasty, and provide a good supper. There's also a nice gong that you can use to create a serene symphony (or to irritate your roommate). Finally, the morning ginger-honey tea was a great wake up drink.

The restaurant (besides the spa) is perhaps the crown jewel of this property. The menu items are extremely diverse in terms of both cuisines and taste. The items are geared towards wellness, and still manage to maintain the balance between health and taste. There was not a single item on the menu that we did not enjoy.
The restaurant as good as it was, had the most wonderful staff to make the food experience 10x better. I would like to point out Purohit and Ayush specifically, who had undoubtedly made our time in Ananda unforgettable.
Both of them had been extremely mannered, and knowledgeable about the menu items. They were able to tell us the preparation, ingredients, and even gave us wonderful suggestions for food combos and dish modifications.

The meditation and yoga sessions are nice, although (and understandably so) for beginners. So if you're a yoga veteran, chances are you'd be a little disappointed.

All in all, the place is nice and beautiful, but the staff makes it an unforgettable experience!

Ananda in the Himalayas is truly a piece of heaven on this planet! Covid taking over our lives this year... Ananda was the balm to our soul. Loved every moment spent here. The treatments, spa, food , extra care and individual attention was just fabulous. The chefs were so indulgent and made whatever we wanted - all in 1 spoon of oil. Learnt how tasty food can be made with less oil. Thank you for the wonderful time you made us have. The property is so well maintained and everyone is so attentive and caring! Waiting to come again.

We had the opportunity of visiting ananda in the last week of august. From the moment we stepped into the property it was a superlative experience. The service was one of the best we experienced in India. The rooms were spacious and well thought of and the spa (as expected ) was of a very high standard given that its a spa resort. The highlight of our trip was the food served at the restaurant. The staff was extremely attentive and although we went out of the menu many times (although not needed) , there was not a single dish we could point fingers at .The food maintains a very very high standard whilst being healthy.Special shout out to the Puran who waited on our tables mostly. There were times that we had to tell him to not spoil us so much else we would have a difficult time when we got back to reality. Another special mention to the helpers in the men's changing room. From the moment i stepped in , it was almost as if i did not even have to walk and someone would do it for me, I felt like i was floating around and it was purely effortless.i just had to look at them and they were there with whatever help i needed.A small example being that i just had to lift my arms and someone was there with a robe !
Overall a highly luxurious stay , spoilt beyond reason and can't wait to be back !!
Small tip :try to visit post august till march since its a bit of a rainy season and also book the villa which has a private pool (though more expensive).
Thank you ananda for the lovely rejuvenating stay !!

All during our stay the wifi and mobile network all thru the stay in every part of the property was pathetic and it's real hard to get anything done while there.
Good scenic but the property is quite dated with hardly any facilities. No computer room or center as the wifi and mobile both very sad and dated.

From the moment I was picked up by the tall turbaned chauffeur greeting me with a smiling namaskar, my holiday was amazing. It was a beautiful half an hour drive up to the hotel... As we we drove up I saw a stunning old building and almost leaned towards the chauffeur to ask him about the gorgeous architecture when he turned around with a big smile and told me "Welcome to Ananda".

The staff at the front desk were so courteous and friendly, I didn't feel like I was visiting a new place but that I was returning to one I had been to many times. This is my 1st ever holiday alone, but the atmosphere was so warm and friendly that I felt on top of the world... And that's what I loved throughout my trip - on top of the world. The humility, the genuine care and the hospitality of each and everyone of the staff there is ineffable.

I have to, absolutely have to, mention how gorgeous my room was. Apart from being so beautifully done, it had the most phenomenal view of the Himalayas and the pristine beauty of the river Ganga, from the varandah.

It was the little things that I loved... the delicious lemon ginger tea that was served each morning, the little healthy evening bites that were provided with turn down service, the fact that there was a bath menu - they thought of everything. Everything to make my trip memorable.

Each day was filled with activities and I enjoyed the Pranayama and the Yoga Nidra that was done each morning and evening. They have taken the Yoga Nidra sessions to another level of perfection where by the end of it you are filled with positivity and energy.

And the pièces de résistance was the spa therapies. A friend of mine asked me if I went to heaven and back after my massage, and I replied, "Nope, I went to heaven and stayed there" . There are no words to describe the how remarkable the spa therapists are at Ananada. At the end of each session, I felt like so relaxed that I felt my bones had melted - almost as if i was a soft noodle that glided back to my room.

Everyone should have a holiday like this at least once in their life.

Thank you Ananda for what I call the 'best of the best experience' . You guys did a number on the body, mind and soul and have left me feeling so full of well being, energy and positivety.

Things I would strongly recommend

Take part in all the meditation and pranayama sessions

Pack in as many massages as possible during your stay

Try to book a room overlooking The Himalayas and The Ganga.

Dear Guest, We have few designated indoor and semi outdoor venues for scheduled Yoga session which are open to all resident guests. Our preferred venue for Yoga is semi open pavilion and is around 875 Sq Feet. We regularly offer private Yoga sessions for our guests , which are conducted in different locations in the premises as per season and guest choice. We have a Vice Regal Hall, measuring 2250 Sq Feet, which is part of the heritage Palace. It is regularly used as an Indoor venue for certain scheduled activities. Being a destination Spa, we do not host large banqueting events. Warm regards, Aniket Sarkar
