It had a vast and diverse collection too hard to try and describe. I would plan a day to fully explore this museumWritten May 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- CuddsHolyhead, UK7,254 contributionsThe weather was “cracking the flags” the London eye must be the most £ grossed tourist attraction in London , it’s not cheap for the 30 min ride and now with the fast track it’s a bit more expensive .
The queues are long , and the view are stunning - you know you can book the Sky Garden “ walkie-talkie building and it’s free.
My words are only a opinion , the London

Does get very busy though so I would recommend an early morning visit to get a head start on the main bits.
I did the guided tour organised by the castle and while it was done by a wonderful guide and well organized, it was quite short and all of it was done outside. When going around the grounds I happened to listen in on some other tours being done by outside organizations and felt that these were done at a more leasurely pace and provided much more information. I feel that next time I visit Edinburgh I will go to the castle again but with a different tour-organisation.
I feel like another thing missing from the castle (it might be there and I just missed it - it is a big castle) is some sort of place or moment where you go through the castles’ history. Some sort of timeline to show which parts were built when, for what purpose, when some of the buildings were destroyed/refurbished,…). We received a lot of information on it once being a fortress, then some parts that were used as barracks, then things being “restored” by the Victorians but nowhere that I found was that information stored in a singular place with a clear outline of what happened when, so all the information felt very muddled and all over the place for me. I find that the majority of the things explained on placards are about what the castle was used for rather than the castle itself being one of the highlights of the story.Written May 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Such a sight especially to see at nighttime
Great feeling to be had when you walk along it, knowing you are walking across one of the great city landmarks
London would not be the same without itWritten May 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I booked a ticket online for the Last Caravaggio. Although it was timed, whatever you may read in other reviews, you can enter the museum via the special exhibit ticket entrance before that time. (This also applies to ticket holders for special exhibits at the British Museum. And don't stand in the enormous queue for general admission. Go to the head of the line and ask for the special ticket entrance.)Written May 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We especially enjoyed the Egyptology section and were amazed at all of the other sections as well. - accidentaltrvlrSouthern California55 contributionsTwo outstanding things: (1) stays open until 10 pm on Fridays (although some galleries close at 5:45 pm), and (2) the Cast Courts have huge reproductions of monuments and sculptures from around the world -- everything from Michelangelo’s David, to the 120' tall Trajan’s Column (cut into two 60' tall pieces), the entire front of the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela, to mummy casks. Also, it tends not to be nearly as crowded as the other museums. Yes, it is free and does not require you to get tickets beforehand. There are other interesting galleries. One thing not to miss is the cafe -- which is London's best museum cafe. Don't be fooled by the host area who's white wall hides the magnificent dining room. There is also the option of having a drink and something to eat in the John Madejski Garden, which is pleasant on a warm evening.Written May 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Viet P2 contributionsOur tour guide Megan was brilliant, she spoke very clearly and kept us entertained through the whole tour. It was one of the best experiences we have had in Edinburgh. 10/10 well worth the walk up!Written May 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jenny M8 contributionsThis was a beautiful visit. You can do the audio tour at your own pace and look at things for as you like. It's a little surreal though wonderful to think this is where the Queen and the Royal family travelled the world! The kids weren't quite so interested so we spent less time there than I'd have liked but still a highly recommended day out.Written May 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PtapamSao Paulo, SP18 contributionsIt's around 20 min from the city centre. Reserve at least 2 or 3 hours to do the hiking. Takes around 30 min to climb, be careful and enjoy every second.
The stones might be slippery, so go with appropriate shoes.
