Cary Elwes has said that his role as Wesley in the 1987 movie The Princess Bride was the big break in his career.

Speaking to People magazine the Robin Hood Men In Tights actor said: 'You're lucky as an actor to have anyone resonate with your work, and I seem to hit the jackpot with that one,

"I have sold-out shows. I tour with the movie and I sell out everywhere I go. It's crazy, It's really beautiful.

The Days Of Thunder actor starred alongside The House Of Cards actress Robin Wright who played the lead and his love interest Princess Buttercup in The Princess Bride, never a blockbuster film, but more as a cult classic.

Cary Elwes is starring in Guy Ritchie's latest film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, a film based on real life event of highly skilled British soldiers who carry out irregular warfare against German forces behind enemy lines, Elwes' grandfather was a member of this regiment.

Elwes told People magazine: "My grandfather was actually recruited by the character I play in the film. He was dropped into Albania in 1943 to create a partisan brigade to fight the Italians and the Germans."

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is in Irish cinemas.
