Notes
Still is a posthumous double album by Joy Division, consisting of previously unused/unavailable studio material and live recordings, including the track "Ceremony", which later became a New Order single.
Tracks A1, A5, B1 and B2 were recorded in April 1979 at Strawberry Studios, Stockport, during the sessions for "Unknown Pleasures".
Tracks A2 and B4 were recorded in October and November 1979 at Cargo Studios, Rochdale, during the sessions for "Licht und Blindheit".
Track A3 recorded in January 1980 at Pennine Sound Studios, Oldham, during the sessions for "Love Will Tear Us Apart".
Track A4 recorded in October 1978 at Cargo Studios, Rochdale, originally released on "A Factory Sample" in 1979.
Track B3 recorded in July and August 1979 at Strawberry Studios, Stockport, during the sessions for the "Transmission" single.
Track B5 was recorded at the Moonlight Club, London on 3 April 1980.
Tracks C1 to D5 were recorded at High Hall, Birmingham University on 2 May 1980.
Initially planned for release in August 1981 (hence the 1/8/81 on the centre labels), this was actually released on 8 October 1981.
- The "hessian" hardback cover with white or blue ribbons and grey labels was the initial release in an edition of 5000 copies.
- A cardboard embossed gatefold cover with cardboard inner sleeves, open to the centre, grey labels, also released in October 1981.
- A special / limited gatefold edition in white cardboard with blue letters, and with white/blue centre labels was issued in December 1981 (believed to be one of Factory's Christmas gifts).
The album peaked at #5 of the UK album charts, staying in the Top 100 for 5 months, hence there are several reissues / represses, with altered packaging.
The song "Twenty Four Hours" was also performed live at Birmingham University, but was left off the CD release due to time constraints. Despite not being listed on the sleeve, it appears on some LP pressings as track C6.

Hi, if someone selling 1st record please contact me, I have only disc 2.
Version isn't that important.
Thanks.referencing Still (2×LP, Album, Reissue, Gatefold) RTD 69
This is definitely an insider tip. Lacquer cut by Guenter Pauler and pressed at Pallas Germany, this variant is one that leaves nothing to be desired.
Vinyl is flat, glossy and quiet between tracks. Overall sound quality is astonishing, dynamics are truly breathtaking. You will cherish this one.
Used to sell for a song, but word must have gotten around.referencing Still (2×LP, Album, Clothbound) FACT 40
Possibly the best Joy Division album, you can hear their more 'quasi-industrial' sound within their outtakes rather than their more straightforward post-punk appeal. I think 'The sound of music' explains my point more concisely ;)- Edited 2 months agoFinally bought this and had a quick playtest....Side 3 (tracks 1 & 2) have exceptionally loud pops and for a brand new record, fingerprints on the vinyl...Basically a shite pressing in my opinion and not worth the vinyl it was pressed on. A VERY disappointing issue indeed.A TRAVESTY!

The packaging on these Joy Division/New Order deluxe editions is amazing. However unfortunately the remastering is overblown and compressed. These are worth owning for the live material and packaging but seek out the original CD mastering if you want to hear the music as it was intended, dynamic and open.- Hey party animals ... on New Order's store page, under Joy Division, this red/wine coloured sleeve 2022 reissue 2LP is listed (for Still) but scrolling down shows a white cover/black lettering 2LP as well (but described as 'true to the original'?!) ... asking the site got me a useless response ('can't help') ... anyone know if this really exists? - Duncan (April '23)
- Packaging needs careful use, the top and bottom of spine can tear over time and the cover is prone to getting dirty. So it's very hard to find this in mint condition. But anyway the gatefold has its own charm, with all those embossed letters, it feels like an old photo album to me
- This Copy has squared cornered inners but i've seen copies with side openings that have 4 rounded Corners but is now where listed here. If someone has a copy, which are quite rare as they hardly show up,it would be welcomed If they could add it to the listing.
- Sounds brilliant to what my original copy sounded like, well I was 13/14 then no respect for vinyl and a terrible hi-fi! Though some records I stil have from those days on floppy vinyl, hairline scratches still sound superb!
