Luis Enrique has named a Spain squad brimming with exciting young talent for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, where La Roja will be looking to add to their famous triumph at South Africa 2010.
Sergio Busquets is the only player from the team that conquered the world in Johannesburg who has been named in the 26-man squad, with Luis Enrique passing the baton to a new generation of players.
Luis Enrique, who will be taking charge of his first World Cup as a coach after playing in three tournaments as a player, has always put the value of the group above individual players.
That is why throughout their impressive qualifying campaign he handed a number of youngsters their debuts, forming a perfect blend of youth and experience which could be the key to a strong World Cup.
Of the 26 players chosen to represent Spain in Qatar, 20 have never played in a World Cup before.
Valencia defender Hugo Guillamon, Villarreal winger Yeremy Pino, Barcelona forward Ansu Fati and Athletic Club Bilbao winger Nico Williams are among the players who will be making their first appearance for Spain at a major tournament.
Spain will begin their World Cup campaign on 23 November against Costa Rica before taking on 2014 champions Germany four days later in what will be one of the most eagerly anticipated matches of the tournament. Their final group game is against Japan on 1 December.
At the very least Spain will be looking to go beyond the last 16 at the World Cup, having failed to do so at their last two outings at the tournament.
This will be Spain's 16th appearance at the World Cup and their 12th consecutive outing. Before kicking off the tournament they will play a warm-up game against Jordan in Oman on 17 November.
