Jay & The Americans had several major hits, but IMO are still one of rock music's most underrated and under-appreciated groups. They had a number of charting hits, but a lot of what they did on albums went virtually unnoticed by many "fans." The reason, I think, is that their albums consisted mostly of cover material.

Take, for example, this two-fer from EMI. The album(s) have a few of the charting hits, but consist mostly of cover versions of songs by other artists. True fans of Jay & The Americans bought these albums when they were originally released on LP. But today's fans of Oldies But Goodies opted for the originals as opposed to covers, even when performed by acknowledged hit-makers. Thus, albums like these fell to the wayside after time.

Yet, these two albums show the incredible talent of this amazing group of college students who formed a group once upon a time. Their first charting hit was "She Cried," which featured lead singer Jay Traynor. This CD two-fer features Traynor's replacement in the group, Jay Black. Actually Jay Black was born David Blatt, but agreed to adopt the name "Jay Black" to fit the group's name. A lot more history is available on Wikipedia.

IMO, this two-fer CD is a bargain at any price. Some of the group's best performances are on this one. "Jay Black" shows what many believe to be one of early rock music's greatest voices (think "Cara Mia").

The song selection on this CD is classic. This not one to pass up owning. Don't buy the MP3 version - OWN THIS ONE. The CD sound quality is excellent, and you'll have something you'll treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jay Black IS Great!

I purchased this set to replace the CD "Sands of Time Wax Museum".that was in my car when it was stolen 12 years ago....I never had heard the other album, "Capture The Moment".

"Sands..and Wax Museum" features the group performing some of the best "oldies" of the 50's and early 60s such as "Johnny B.Goode", "Lover's Question", "Lonely Teardrops", "Pledging My Love", etc. The CD also includes their hits "This Magic Moment" and "Walking In The Rain". The only "odd" selection on the Cd is "You Were On My Mind"....they do a great version, but the song doesn't belong with the other songs which were mostly Doo Wop and R&B.

I never get tired of listening to this CD and have played it for hours at a time...great versions of other artist's work....as to the other CD, "Capture The Moment", I still haven't listened to it after 4 months...can't seem to be able to stop listening to "Sands..."

Jay Black, who sang lead on all these songs is great....HE was "Jay & The Americans", and can't be replaced.

I had forgotten how excellent this group really was. Jay Black is the best singer I have ever heard. He puts so much feeling in his voice. Love them!
