LeGarrette Blount has officially retired from the sport of football. Blount’s career has been a rollercoaster, but many fans can say that it’s been a good ride. Buckle up, and let us take a look through Blount’s football career.

Overlooked to High Touted

Blount was considered a two-star prospect out of high school and didn’t receive many looks from big programs. He then decided to attend East Mississippi Community College, which is most known for the recent Netflix series Last Chance U. In his two years there, he balled out rushing for over 2,292 yards and 18 touchdowns. By the end of his tenure, Blount was recognized as the 12th best prospect in junior college in 2007. Now being courted by many prominent schools, he ultimately decided to finish his college career with the Oregon Ducks.

Once he arrived, Blount became a force on the field, scoring 17 touchdowns (school record) while spitting carries alongside Jeremiah Johnson. While going into his senior season, things were looking up for Blount as he was looking to improve and take home some major hardware. However, his season was derailed due to the incident in the Boise State game. He would only play five games but helped his team earn a Rose Bowl bid while scoring a touchdown against rival Oregon State. All in all, Blount’s numbers in college were astounding, but it wasn’t enough as he went undrafted in 2010. Many teams passed on him because of the incident prior and believed him to be “a ticking time bomb.”

Introduction To The NFL

Nevertheless, Blount ended up getting a chance, signing with the Titans as a free agent. His time there was short, but he received another opportunity to play with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He wouldn’t waste any time and ended up having his first 1,000-yard season as a rookie. After all the things he went through in the year before, Blount was back like he’d never left. Blount would play two more seasons in Tampa and continued his journey throughout the league, playing for the Steelers and Patriots through 2013-2016.

LeGarrette’s Resurgence

Blount was still a productive running back but couldn’t find the same success he had in his first season. All that changed in his second tenure with the Patriots. In 2016, he had the best season, finishing with career highs of 1,161 yards and 18 touchdowns (franchise record). Blount’s production helped lead the Patriots to their second super bowl in three years. Somehow, New England didn’t resign him, and he went on to Philadelphia. In storybook fashion, he would find himself in the Super Bowl again that year against his former team. The Eagles ended up winning that game 41-33, which became Blount’s third ring. The last time he played was in 2018 with the Detroit Lions. He finished his career with over 6000 yards and 50 plus touchdowns in nine seasons.
