AKA: Amos Blakemore and Amos Wells Blakemore Jr.

About Junior Wells

Junior Wells (born Amos Wells Blakemore Jr., December 9, 1934 – died January 15, 1998) was a Chicago blues vocalist and harmonica player known for popularising the chicago blues-associated harmonica style.

Raised in West Memphis, Arkansas; Junior started playing harmonica taught by his cousin Junior Parker and began playing in clubs and taverns after moving to Chicago in 1948.
After a short period playing with the Aces, in 1952 he made his first recordings replacing Little Walter in Muddy Water’s band.

Wells released his debut solo album Hoodoo Man Blues in 1965, making this his first collaboration with, who would be his closest partner during all his carrer, guitarist Buddy Guy.
The two would record classic Chicago blues albums such as South Side Blues Jam, It’s My Life, Baby or Coming at You and would be considered influential figures in the developing of the Chicago blues style.
