Trails are well maintained on Lamentation Mountain itself, however some portions intersect with the service trails and can be confusing. The views are good, but mainly just looking at surrounding buildings and houses. The hike itself is very nice and not as busy as the nearby Chauncey Peak. The trail near the summit is directly along the side of cliffs and I would recommend leashing your dog especially next to this area.
Fantastic views…..but going all the way to the end does not bring any better views, it just prolongs the hike……I continued further on the blue trail because All Trails had a “camera ” on the trail & I thought there was something great to see…there was nothing there….the camera should be removed from the map. Fun ledge trail, need hiking shoes/boots, trail rocky, dry….kind of creepy in the beginning walking near the huge power lines. Trail very well marked, can’t really get lost.
Views were awesome! We actually made a misstep at the beginning of the trail and had to cut over from red/white to blue a little further up but it was fine. The trail continues past the lamentation mountain marker on the map, so we just turned around and took it all the way back down. About 3 hours overall but stopped at each overlook and took our time.
Beautiful! Went early this morning. The wildflowers are up — trout lily, rue anemone, Dutchman’s Breeches, bloodroot. The grasses were so green and the trail is lovely—great views to the west once you are up on the ridge. On the way back I took the yellow trail (well marked but the junction is not obvious unless you are looking for it). Rocky and muddy in places where it followed the drainage but I still prefer a loop. Meets up with white near the head of the reservoir. Definitely coming back here!
