EXCELLENT German food

This restaurant is an EXCELLENT place to dine. The service is OUTSTANDING, efficient, and very polite. The food is also OUTSTANDING. Our weiner schnitzel dinners were EXCELLENTLY PREPARED, beautifully presented, and tasted great. When next in the area, we will definitely dine here again.

So good! Helmut is one in a million! The escargot was fantastic... The wine .. the Weiner schnitzel... The service .. everything! So worth it! This is a bucket list dinner for Jeff City!

Helmet, Lori, Ulga and Janine are incredible! The food is delicious and the German bier even better! We had a big group and they treated us so great. Poplar Bluff WILL be back!

Terrible food! new cook

Terrible food. Salad was so wet the dressing just slid off. All you tasted was water. Entrees were flavorless. Waitress apologized and said there was a new cook. Don't go! $27. 95 per entree. Bad food.

I will be back again and again

Stopped by because it was close to the hotel. Now that I have eaten here I will travel any distance to get here. Met Helmut, the owner, that was the start of an amazing meal and evening. I had the sampler platter. Jeanine, was wonderful. The food is incredible. The German Beef Rouladen was beyond great. I hope anyone close to stop by, I know you will go again.

Service was awesome, food was meh

Looking at the reviews, we thought we were walking into the holy grail of German food…. The good: atmosphere, service, whipped butter The poor: our French bread was microwaved, yes you read that right, microwaved. It was chewy and within seconds became hard, yuck! The food was just ok. For the price we expected to be wowed but no, sadly it was just alright. Maybe we went on the wrong night but for the prices, won’t be trying them again…

Fine dining in a refreshingly friendly atmosphere. Treated us like family…really!

THE BEST dining experience we’ve had in years! Helmut is the consummate welcoming host, even sharing with us his recommended aperitif along some fascinating tales of his youth. Our server Lori (sorry if I misspelled your name) was spot-on with her menu suggestions and highly attentive with drink refills and removing empty plates. Every dish, from appetizer to entree, was beautifully presented and so delicious. We had the fresh-shucked oysters and house recipe escargot, and, since the portions are more than generous, we shared the sampler platter and one serving of the smoked schweinshaxe three ways. Many thanks to Helmut, Lori and Chris for going way, WAY above and beyond in providing the very best experience for their guests. Our home in Oklahoma is a bit too far away for us to be regulars but you’d best believe the next time we are anywhere near Jeff City again we will be dining at Das Stein Haus!

Great food, great drinks , good prices, great atmosphere. Staff was very friendly, bartenders (especially Lauri) worked very hard and made night very enjoyable. Definitely recommend a visit if in the area.

Great food with great service

We were told about this restaurant by friends who visit here every time they are in town. The place is quaint with a large wine selection. The owner, Helmut, makes it a point to visit each table and share a bit of his secret-recipe schnapps - which was delicious! We had the Touch of Germany plate and Salmon. Portions were generous and the food is very good. This was the first time having a cream sauce with mushrooms on salmon, but it worked. Olga, who doubles as hostess and server is a delight. We will definitely be back when business brings us back to Jefferson City.

Great Choice!

Absolutely amazing food and service. My business partner and I both each had the German sampler and shared a bottle of Cab. Every bit of the food was delicious and the waitress (blonde) was outstanding. The owner Helmut greeted us at the door and came by at the end of our meal. Will be back when we’re back.

Nothing wrong with it, but nothing special either

We went there on a weekday, when the dining room portion of the restaurant was closed. If we'd been able to eat in the dining room, perhaps it would have had more atmosphere. The service was very good, the portions generous, and the prices reasonable. I would have preferred if they'd had spaetzle and apple strudel on the menu, but they did have a German sampler which we ordered and German chocolate cake, which we didn't. Again, there was nothing wrong with it, but my personal tastes run to something a little different. Give it a try and see what you think.
