It's an overall good experience. I wouldn't recommend taking courses at the Malibu Campus. It's very cold and lonely.
The social scened at Santa Monica College is dead. It is so hard to make friends because people are just focused on getting out. Professors know students are just there to transfer so they try to make the courses easy. Some professors however are very outdated and not understanding.
My experience was overall great. I was part of the athletics program which made it a better experience for sure. Everything was great I just struggled with the campus life as I believe it wasn't great and could be better. I don't have something I would change other than maybe do more for students to meet.
My experiences have been unforgettable. The Professors are very involved in student's needs if necessary.
Overall Santa Monica College was a really great experience for this time in my life. I have enjoyed almost every class that I have taken, and felt as though each student was heard in all the courses that I have taken. Santa Monica College has readied me to transfer to my 4- year institution, and that was the most important aspect of all!
Santa Monica College has provided me and others with a variety of specializations and focuses we can take in nearing our career choices. As a student who was lost in my educational progress, I took time from my four-year university to return home and enroll in Santa Monica College courses in the hope of finding a better path. This not only helped me find my educational purpose but also shifted me to take the right steps toward my career through the need-earning strong visual art program they offer for film students like me. regardless of what major- Santa Monica College offers a diverse range of classes that help students find their focus and passion in life.
My experience at Santa Monica college was pleasant. It’s a very friendly environment where you get to meet lots of unique individuals. The professors are nice and very helpful. I would like to see more security in the student parking lot at night time. I found it sometimes scary walking to the car when there were groups of people standing in corners smoking.
Santa Monica College was not only an affordable experience but also was great in helping guide my path towards college as out of High School I had no clue what I was going to do. I was able to learn what my passion in life is with Anthropology and it was able to help in my transferring to UCLA. If anything I would like to see better online classes, as their physical classes are much better.
I have had a wonderful time at Santa Monica College. It feels like a second home to me. The campus is beautiful and I feel so safe. The teachers are all so welcoming, kind, and they really care about you and your future. Furthermore, the students around are kind. I almost don't ever want to leave Santa Monica College, but I will continue forward to a 4-year university and pursue the future Santa Monica College has helped prepared for me. I will definitely recommend anyone from high school or returning to school to go to SMC. They will help you succeed. I plan on returning just to hi :)
One of the best parts about going to Santa Monica College are the professors when you find the right ones. RateMyProfessor usually never lets me down, and nearly all of my professors not only had great curriculums but they care about the students. It's also a really calm environment, and I never felt out of place. They could work on some more events at the school and personally, as an art student, introduce new major-focused classes and scholarship opportunities.
I appreciate the opportunity to interact with students from all around the world, which enriches the learning environment. Additionally, having weekend and night classes available is beneficial for those with busy schedules. However, I do have some suggestions for improvement. Firstly, I believe there is a need to expand the Computer Science department beyond basic classes. Providing more advanced courses would better cater to the needs and interests of students passionate about this field. Furthermore, it would be beneficial for professors to be more responsive to student emails. It can be frustrating when inquiries are ignored, hindering effective communication and potential academic support. In terms of facilities, I wish the library had extended hours, especially during weekends. This would accommodate students who prefer to study in a quiet environment or need access to resources outside of regular hours.
santa monica college is located in an area that is close to the beach with many restaurants and activities happening around it. The school experience overall is great and everyone is responsible for their roles.
I like how its very diverse and open, many of the people I've met on campus are international students which is very fun.
Santa Monica College was beautiful over all! The campus was such a beach school vibe. The outdoor campus made your school days great because there were different study spots available. Professors were amazing especially the communication professors! Counselors and professors were always willing to help. I would say the financial aid office could’ve been more accessible but either way, they always replied to emails quickly. Overall the student life was very diverse and open for everyone. So many clubs you can join to learn about different cultures as well. If you can go to SMC i’d definitely say it’s worth it !
It's a good school to transfer to a university, but there is no expectation as it promotes itself the best college to transfer from. There is no student life and campuses are small and mostly building, no area to study. Professors vary, some of them are really good, but some might be questionable in terms of quality of teaching.
Pretty okay for a college. You are close to the Santa Monica Promenade and the Santa Monics Beach Pier.
SMC is considered #1 transferring school in whole state of California. The variety of courses is so rich and very beneficial for the best chances in transferring to other schools. So far, the Professors are great, however I do think there aren’t many great Professors in the Math department; not that there is none. The school is very big and has over 20,000 students, which creates a rich diversity pool. I would recommend the school to anyone who’s trying to transfer to the best school possible.
