Really not my type of music. A bit electro, a bit funky, but nothing really gets me.

It's all over the place and the songs are way to long imo.

It's like the worst excesses of the Bruton catalogue distilled and compressed into a solid cube of 50 year old cheddar.

4 10+ minute electronic tracks that each have their own unique sound, this album never feels tired. I wasn’t big on the last piece, but the other 3 brought a playfulness I haven’t heard from the genre in a while. It was fun.

Bean-Bag Frog
Jun Fukamachi makes a considerable effort in the progressive electronic genre with Quark. There's a good amount of musical content here to keep you engaged throughout it's runtime. The four tracks here each have their own unique identity, and the album as a whole has a real nice flow to it. I do think my experience of this project has hampered by some of the goofy effects Jun tries to employ to make this record sound fuller than it actually is. Also, while I think the closer is neat, it's not my favorite ambient cut under the sun. Fukamachi mistakes adding scary sound effects for actually interesting song progression. This is a neat project; as neat as the bean-bag frog on the front cover. Quark is cheap on Apple Music, so give it the time of day.

Well, I can tell that there was a lot of fun to be had in making this album. "Quark" (the song) is cheerful and bouncy, like you've just opened a treasure chest in a 16-bit rpg. "Perpetual (Movement)" and "Desillusion" are very smooth and... piano-y. "Desillusion" has some Keith Jarrett-esque moments, but usually goes a little too slick for me. And "Insight" is slightly horror film-y and sparse, with some fun beeps and blips partway through.

End of the day, it's an ok album, but it doesn't really keep my interest.

One of fukamachis more experimental records, its very well done but some of the writings a bit meh, spifically on the last track. Overall though it's very good but Mr fukamachi has better things in his catalog imo.

Track one is straight-ahead prog rock, track two is an attempt at minimalism, track three is a jazz-blues ballad, and track four is a spooky horror-ambient piece built around a heartbeat sound. And all of it's hilarious, because Mr. Fukamachi plays all of it on only the silliest-sounding synths he can find. And that would be okay if this were content to be an electronic album, but it's not, the goal here is to replicate the sounds a full band, but it fails at doing that so spectacularly. Which begs the question: why didn't he just hire a band?

(the answer is that this album was actually performed entirely by the cute froggy on the cover, and he didn't want anyone to know that he's a frog. he's shy!)

Another Youtube recommendation
4 songs, each 10 minutes in length, very reminiscent of what Tangerine Dream were doing around the same time.
The first song and title track starts of like the instrumental for a bouncy synth-pop song before transitioning to more spacey, ambient and slightly experimental instrumentation around the 6 minute mark. This shift really sets up the sound for most of the album, the second song is immediately more unnerving than the previous track, Perpetual (movement) sounds like dark and unusual synth based soundtrack for a Sci-Fi film from the late 70s. The third song, Desillusion, begins introducing more grande aspects letting a piano take the lead for most of the track, the piece as a whole is heavily influenced by Classical music, just done 90% by synths. The second half of the song reminds me of the work of Joe Hisaishi, the guy who does the Ghibli scores, lending a slightly airy quality to the track that was very welcome. The final song, Insight, like the second song, reminds me of a Sci-Fi film score, but this time there's a lot more use of space between notes to let the ambience and a solo heartbeat-esque pulse unnerve you. Insight also has a lot of sharp stabs of keys taking the track into near Horror film score territory at points.
