Sn H A film about females overstepping the mark and meddling and how males swept along with it suffer the consequences. That's the message I took from the film, it was set in a time of major social upheaval in Britain which made me wonder was that just a coincidence, it's very well acted and easy on the eye. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/07/23 Full Review Audience Member This film was exhausting! I'm glad I didn't read the book. Would've been a waste of time. Terrible storyline...the only thing correct was the way English people were back then. Conceited, selfish, judgemental, opinionated and arrogant. Hated the way they got away with kidnapping and manslaughter. Stupid ending. Don't even bother to watch the start. The half star is for the Italian location. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Horrible story line and mumbling dialog. A baby gets kidnapped and dies in the process, yet nobody is so much as arrested. Instead, they go about their merry way. Great cinematography and production quality; too bad it was wasted on such complete trash. Don't waste your time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Having not read the novel, the film take an unexpected detour halfway that almost turns it into two completely different films. A terrific performances by Rupert Graves is the glue that hold it together, though. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member good brit costume drama Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Intriguing if a little stuffy, this period romp often falls in the shadow of similar E. M. Forster adaptions but deserves to be seen due to its fine acting and somewhat unconventional story. Mirren, Carter, Davis and Graves are each on fine form playing a group of pompous Brits who fall in love with Italian romanticism, only to find themselves trapped in a dramatic chain of events involving death, marriage and children. As you would expect from any Merchant-Ivory drama, the artistic achievement is high, and though the more dramatic moments are a bit over-ripe at times, the story and its era lend themselves well to a touch of melodrama. The film will undoubtedly play out too slowly for some, but the rewards are generally good enough to warrant your time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
