Most people who walked into a Pontiac dealership in 1965 ordered the hardtop. It made sense. The convertible was significantly more expensive, so the hardtop accounted for 55,722 goats built this year.
Only 11,311 people got the convertible, while the sports coupe was the least popular version, with 8,319 units.

Unsurprisingly, the four-barrel GTO was the icing on the cake, so 54,805 customers ordered one. The Tri-Power GTO was still an intriguing purchase, accounting for over 20,500 orders.

The 1965 Pontiac GTO in these photos is an excellent opportunity to inspect the original model in detail, as the car received a frame-off restoration specifically to return the vehicle to its factory condition. The complete overhaul turned it into a mesmerizing GTO used for three years as a trailer queen.

eBay seller squaregare says the GTO hit the road on several occasions in the last year, but its condition remains top-notch.

I won't comment much on its shape because anyone can figure out what this GTO is all about by checking out the photos, so let's see what happens under the hood. The car is powered by a matching-numbers 389, and the owner says it runs quietly and smoothly. The V8 has likely been rebuilt, so it's unclear if the advertised 27K miles are original.

The GTO also features the original three deuces setup. It has "been gone through" and is now in tip-top shape.

As you may know, if you're a diehard GTO fan, determining if a 1965 model year is the real deal is not that easy. Pontiac offered the GTO as a LeMans option in 1965, and it didn't come with separate codes. The VIN on this 1965 example (237375P379659) is the correct code for a potential GTO (before it moved to separate 242 codes in 1966), so your best option for this car is to ask for a PHS check.

Otherwise, everything on this GTO looks great, so it's no surprise that it has already caught the attention of many buyers on eBay. The car landed online a few hours ago and has received 20 bids, with the top offer exceeding $25,000.

The bad news is that the seller has also enabled a reserve, meaning that the Internet must do better to take this GTO home. It's unclear how high the bidding must go, but for now, the GTO remains where it is.

Considering it's a 1965 GTO that has already been restored, you're strongly recommended to inspect the car before committing to a purchase. You can find the GTO in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and despite its great shape, you should still take it home on a trailer. The bidding ends in approximately five days.
