“Freedun” is the fourth single from M.I.A.’s fifth album, “AIM” (fifth single if considering the promotional single “Swords”), and is produced by Polow da Don.

The song was originally recorded for her fourth album “Matangi"in 2011 with M.I.A.’s vocals alone:

I didn’t put it on that (Matangi) cos it felt too pop and I wasn’t ready to make that record. Matangi was like a lot weirder, so it didn’t fit the record and I kept it. […] But it really fits perfectly on this one.

In August 2016, the singer contacted ZAYN while she was in India, and his vocals were added to the song a few days before the pre-order of “AIM”.
