Early Childhood

Our youngest students learn best in a safe and nurturing environment where curiosity and exploration are cultivated. Guided discovery and unstructured play both inside and outside of the classroom provides children with the freedom to creatively choose much about their learning paths. Partnerships with families are essential, as we know that children flourish in a supportive environment in which the child, the family, and teachers work together.

Panther Park

International School Bangkok’s (ISB) Panther Park is an early childhood playground full of creativity, adventure, and imagination. We designed it last year with the help of our Elementary School students, consequently constructing their designs and opening the Park for use in February of 2021.

Our younger Panthers certainly rose to the design challenge – delivering architectural designs and inspirations in the forms of sketches, 3D models, and more. Once completed, our students shared their ideas with the architect and playground manufacturer. A treehouse and sensory play areas were just a
few of the students’ design concepts incorporated into the final playground design.

Panther Park is an incredible space for play and learning that involves physical, social, cognitive, and creative elements. Located near our Early Childhood Center, the Park is blended into a landscape with newly planted or reintroduced trees, plants, and water features; it is seamlessly incorporated into ISB’s
natural environment. Adventure and fun abound in our Panther Park, where students can ride tricycles around the race track, climb up the treehouse, swing on a swing set, jump on trampolines, hop on the chalk walk, or play with water and sand in our sensory play area.

Reinsch Field

Reinsch Field, one of the finest baseball facilities in Thailand, is named in honor of Mr. Bill Reinsch. Reinsch played a major part in the ISB community as the three Reinsch children, Bill, Annie and Mike, all attended the school. A big-time sportsman, Bill coached both basketball (his sport in high school and at the University of Southern California) and baseball in the ISB community, and it is his involvement with baseball in Thailand for which he was most passionate. In his time in Thailand, Bill’s work with the Bangkok Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) was instrumental in promoting baseball as a major sport in the country. Fittingly, the baseball facility at ISB, which was opened in 1992 when the school moved to Pakkret, is named after this remarkable gentleman.

Rajendra Gym

For the past 46 years the main gymnasium at International School Bangkok (ISB) has been called “Rajendra Hall” after a much beloved teacher, coach and Director of Physical Education and Athletics, Mr. P.E. Rajendra.

So who was this gentleman whose name has graced the center of physical activity at ISB? Ponnuduari Emmanuel (P.E.) Rajendra, a native of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), was born in Malacca in 1920. While his early education took place in Ceylon, he later matriculated to the University of Iowa in the U.S. where he earned a Master’s degree in physical education. His early career found him working for the Department of Education in Ceylon, including a stint at St. John’s University, Jaffna, where, as the head track & field coach, he led the team to a national championship in 1944, and later served as the Ceylonese national athletics coach. In 1962, he was hired as ISB’s Director of Physical Education and Athletics with the express goal of revamping the school’s physical education and athletic program.
