Check-In & Travel Documents

Check-In

You can check in on the Ryanair.com website or on the mobile App. Once you are logged in, select check-in and enter your travel document details. For your safety and security, and for the safety and security of your fellow passengers and our crew, the check-in process must be completed by you personally, by a passenger on your booking, or by an individual with personal knowledge of you and of the contents of your luggage. This requirement is to ensure you are on notice of, and that you, a passenger on your booking, or an individual with personal knowledge of you and of the contents of your luggage have confirmed compliance with required safety, security and public health protocols, including those set out by the ICAO Technical Instructions, Regulation (EU) 2015/1998, and the EASA/ECDC Covid-19 Aviation Health Safety Protocol.

If you have pre-reserved a seat, you can check in online up to 60 days before scheduled departure. However, your outbound and return flights must be within those 60 days of departure. If you have not reserved a seat and this is being assigned to you randomly, check-in opens 24 hours before your flight and closes 2 hours before.

Yes. You can check in for your flight at the airport, but you will have to pay an airport check-in fee per passenger to cover the extra cost of the airport check-in service. Please see our Table of Fees.

If you checked in but cannot present your boarding pass on the App or in a printed-out paper format when arriving at the airport, you will have to pay a boarding pass reissue fee per passenger at the airport ticket desk. See our Table of Fees.

Please note: if you depart from a Moroccan airport, a digital boarding pass will not be accepted. You must carry a physical printout of your boarding pass, and you’ll need to present this boarding pass at the Moroccan airport check-in facility.

If you do not check in online up to 2 hours before your scheduled departure time, you may check in at the airport up to 40 minutes before departure, but you will be charged an airport check-in fee. See our Table of Fees. We urge all passengers to check in online before arriving at the airport so these fees can be avoided.

In order to check-in, you need a valid travel document. When travelling with Ryanair, we generally accept 2 forms of ID.

  • A valid passport;
  • A valid National Identity Card.

We do not accept a driver's license or birth cert for travel to any location. It is each passenger’s responsibility to carry Photo ID which meets our requirements and the requirements of the relevant Immigration Authority.

There are different rules for different destinations, so please check these before you travel. You can confirm what’s needed by clicking here.

If you have any issues checking in, you should use an alternative device, clear cache and cookies on your web browser, or make sure you have downloaded the latest version of the App. Alternatively, contact us here.

If you are having difficulties checking in because you booked with an online travel agent instead of directly through the Ryanair.com, you should verify yourself on Ryanair’s website by clicking here. You will be able to check in through Ryanair’s website once the verification process is successfully completed.

If you are still getting an error message, please contact our assistance service here.

Boarding Pass

You can access your boarding pass via ‘My Bookings’ on the Ryanair.com website or the Ryanair App.

If you depart from a Moroccan airport, a digital boarding pass will not be accepted. You must carry a physical printout of your boarding pass, and you’ll need to present this boarding pass at the Moroccan airport check-in facility.

If you have checked in online and forgot your boarding pass, you can access it at any time in the Ryanair app. If you are at the airport and do not have the Ryanair App or cannot access it, we can print one for you at the check-in desk, but you will be charged a boarding card reissue fee. See our Table of Fees.

You can access your boarding pass on the Ryanair App once you have checked in. You do not need to print your boarding pass once you have access to the Ryanair App unless you are departing from a Moroccan airport.

If you do not have access to a printer, we can print it for you at the check-in desk, but you will be charged a boarding card reissue fee for each passenger. See our Table of Fees.

We accept mobile boarding passes on flights from the majority of airports on our network.
However unfortunately some airports cannot accept mobile boarding passes yet, these airports are:

  • Turkey (except Dalaman airport)
  • Morocco

Also the following airport does not accept mobile boarding passes:

  • Tirana

*Customers traveling from these airports must check in online and print out a paper boarding pass for their flight(s).

Check-In When Booking Made Through a Third Party

If you have been asked to verify your identity, it is because your booking has been flagged as having been made by a third-party travel agent that has no commercial agreement with Ryanair to sell our flights. For more information, please refer to the Travel Agent Bookings page.

Travel Documents

When travelling with Ryanair, we generally accept 2 forms of ID:

  • A valid passport;
  • A valid National Identity Card.

We do not accept a driver's license or birth certificate for travel to any location. It is each passenger’s responsibility to carry Photo ID which meets our requirements and the requirements of the relevant Immigration Authority.

There are different rules for different destinations, so please be sure to check these before you travel.

To streamline your travel experience and maintain a record of the necessary visa documentation, we are introducing an optional feature to upload the required visa documentation during the check-in process via our app. This will demonstrate that you carried the correct documents at the time of departure, to avoid fines or criminal penalties for travelling without the required documents. For further information see our FAQ.

However, if this option is not available for your flight, you must have your travel documents checked at the Ryanair check-in desk.

All personal data uploaded by you and others on your booking will be processed in accordance with the Ryanair Privacy Policy. Visa documents will be available in your account for 24 hours and will be saved by Ryanair for 18 months.

Depending on your nationality and flight destination, a visa may be required to travel.

All non-EU/EEA citizens must have their travel documents checked and stamped at the Ryanair Visa/Document check desk before going through airport security. Your boarding pass will display the information for routes that require mandatory Visa/Document checks.

Non-EU/EEA citizens must do this to ensure compliance with immigration authority rules. We reserve the right to refuse travel if there is any failure to comply with this requirement.

Citizens of the United States, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand may complete passport verification during the check-in process via our app instead of at the visa check desk. To use this service, ensure your passport is:

  • Valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay for flights from Schengen to Non-Schengen regions.
  • Valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended stay for flights within Schengen regions.

However, if the passport verification process is not available, you must proceed to the visa check desk at the airport.

If you have been denied boarding and require clarification, please return to the visa check desk at the airport. The ticket desk agent will contact the Ryanair Immigration Department for further assistance.

Yes. We advise all passengers to allow more time for visa checks at the airport. The check-in and Visa/Document Check desks are open at least 2 hours before your departure time and close strictly 40 minutes prior to the scheduled time of departure. If you have not had your visa check done before this deadline, you will not be allowed to travel, and you will not be entitled to a refund of the missed flight.

All visa checks must be done before you travel through airport security. You should check your departure time and ensure you have planned to allow sufficient for all these visa checks.

Each country has specific requirements for minors travelling without their parents or legal guardians and what documentation is required. It is each passenger’s responsibility to ensure that these specific document requirements are fully met.

You can find what documents are needed for minors travelling within the EU here. You can also confirm visa and passport requirements by contacting the consulate or embassy of the country you’re planning to travel to.

If you have lost your passport, you will need a valid temporary passport issued by your country’s embassy or consulate to return home. Please contact your local embassy or consulate for more information.

At the airport, go to the Ryanair check-in desk, and if you have all the required documentation, we will issue you a boarding pass.

FAQs – Visa Capture

All non-EU/EEA citizens with a restricted boarding pass will have the option to upload their visa documentation to their myRyanair app. Uploading your visa documentation is voluntary and all passengers are still required to complete a visa check in the airport prior to departure.

This option ensures a record of the required visa documentation is maintained, necessary for potential challenges from immigration or border control at the destination. It will demonstrate that appropriate the documentation was presented at the point of departure, to prevent fines and penalties associated with transporting a passenger lacking the necessary documents, and to avoid criminal enforcement in case of failure to present the correct documents on arrival.

It is the responsibility of each traveller to ensure that they have proper visa documentation to travel to their destination. In the event of a failure to present valid visa documentation upon arrival at their destination, both the airline and the passenger could face legal claims or criminal enforcement by immigration , border control and local law enforcement authorities. Uploading your visa documentation to the Ryanair app will ensure a record of the necessary visa documentation presented at boarding. Should an unforeseen event occur prior to presenting to immigration at your destination country, the uploaded visa documentation can serve as a record that the passenger had the required documents at the time of departure.

If you choose to upload your visa documentation, you will need to:

  • Log into or sign up to a myRyanair account.
  • Check in for your upcoming flight.
  • If you are required to have a visa for your destination, you will have the option to upload (a) your passport photo page and (b) your visa document.
  • Choose “Add Visa Document” and take a photo of your visa in the app or upload a photo.
  • Confirm that the photo you are uploading is correct.

You will receive instant confirmation where your visa document has been successfully uploaded. Once you have uploaded a copy of your visa, your boarding pass will be updated to include a green “Visa documentation uploaded” message. If you do not upload your visa documentation, your boarding pass will show a red “no visa documentation uploaded” message.

The copy of your visa will remain in the app for 48 hours.

Immigration authority rules require Ryanair to carry out manual visa checks in the airport before permitting passengers that require a visa to board our flights. To protect the safety and security of your documents, airport staff will not have direct access to the uploaded picture of your visa. Our airport staff will carry out a manual inspection of your visa documentation and compare this to the copy of the visa uploaded to your myRyanair app. This check will be carried out at the check-in desk and you will be asked to show the copies of your passport and visa saved in your booking.

Ryanair generally retains a copy of your visa for 18 months. This helps us defend against any legal claims or enforcement actions brought against Ryanair or you as a passenger where correct or valid visa documentation cannot be provided to border control or immigration in your destination.

We may retain a copy of your documents for a longer period in order to meet our legal obligations or to deal with complaints, queries, regulatory requirements, for audit purposes, and relevant entry requirements.

Only certain employees that have a specific need to review visa documentation will have access including our Immigration department which has expert knowledge of visa requirements, our Legal department in the context of any potential claim from the country of destination and restricted members of our IT team to ensure technical efficiency of the process.

Ground agents do not have access to your visa documentation other than viewing this information in the app on your device when they asked to see your saved visa documents as part of the visa checks on check-in.
