In-state QB Grayson Clary is set to camp at Clemson for the third time in four years

Grayson Clary has been a mainstay at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp over the past few years and he will once again be back this summer.

The 2027 in-state QB is expected to take over the starting role at Daniel next season, an opportunity he is very much looking forward to. Although, with the school having won three state titles in the past four years, he knows he is stepping into a high-pressure situation.

“I’m excited to be able to play with my guys on Friday nights instead of Thursdays,” Clary told The Clemson Insider. “Thursday nights are great, but it’s not the same as a Friday night. We’re gonna have a good time this year. But anytime there’s pressure there’s got to be a good reason behind it. So, just got to live up to that now and get to work.”

With Clary not even having started his sophomore season yet, schools are limited when it comes to how much contact they can have. Right now, with camp season about to ramp up, he is getting a lot of invites.

“Mercer, Auburn, Clemson, Wake Forest, ECU, Liberty, South Carolina, Indiana, there are a lot of them,” Clary said of some of the camps he hopes to attend.

Clary has multiple ties to Clemson. He grew up rooting for the Tigers, while his dad was an academic advisor with the program for six years before leaving in 2010. His grandad also played for the 1981 national title team.

Clary’s last visit was for the Charleston Southern game last season and the young QB plans to be back at Clemson for camp on June 8.

This will be the third time Clary has worked out at camp in the past four years and he is not only looking to prove he belongs, but also to reconnect with some of the guys his dad knew while he was still with the program.

“I’m just coming to get my name out there more than it has been in the past few years,” he said. “Just looking to compete against the top guys when I’m there. And looking forward to seeing coach Tajh (Boyd) again and just all the all the guys that my dad coached while he was at Clemson.”

Growing up a fan of the program, Clary is more than familiar with a lot of the traditions at Clemson, and there are a couple that separate Dabo Swinney’s program from the rest.

“I love how they always seem to drawback into the military aspect of everything,” Clary said. “Then all the different things that coach Swinney does to bring his faith in the Lord to the football field.”

Clary knows that Clemson is still more than a year away from handing out offers to players in his class. In fact, he is so early in the process that he has yet to even really start looking that far ahead. Right now he is just focused on putting in the work and letting his play on the field doing his talking.

But when that time comes, and if Clary ever does get that phone call telling him he has on offer from the Tigers, it is one that he knows he would have earned.

“It would make me feel very good about myself and how the hard work is paying off,” Clary said. “Every year I’ve gone to camp, I’ve always loved the culture. I love everything that the coaches have done, everything about it. Clemson offering would mean something different than most of the other offers because of how selective they are. My family and I would be excited.”

“My grandfather played at Clemson on the national championship team, so it runs the family. It’d be a big deal for me and my family getting that. I wouldn’t know quite what we would do exactly. Have it really thought that far forward yet, but we would for sure be very excited”
