Inter Miami acquires winger Ariel (son of Roy) Lassiter from Houston Dynamo for $100,000
Inter Miami bolstered its attack on Thursday with a player whose surname will be familiar to longtime MLS fans
Ariel Lassiter, son of former Miami Fusion and MLS star Roy Lassiter, was acquired from Houston Dynamo in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) – $50,000 in 2022 and $50,000 in 2023 - and additional GAM if performance-based incentives are met. The Costa Rican international, who also holds U.S. citizenship, plays winger and forward and inherited his father’s speed.
“We’re excited to continue strengthening the squad ahead of our 2022 season with the signing of Ariel. He has the ability to stretch teams with his quickness and pace and looks to get behind to create scoring opportunities,” said Inter Miami chief soccer officer Chris Henderson.
“He comes from a soccer family, brings good character to the club and we believe he can be a good fit to our team.”
Roy Lassiter, who played for the U.S. national team, is one of the most prolific scorers in MLS history with 101 goals in 200 matches.
The younger Lassiter, 27, spent four years with the LA Galaxy (2015-18), two seasons with Houston (2020-21) and also played for Costa Rica’s Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (2019-20), where he scored 24 goals and had 16 assists in 65 games. He has played 17 games for the Costa Rican national team.
He made his pro debut with Swedish club GAIS in 2014.
