SALEM, Va. – The Roanoke college softball team's late-season surge has earned the Maroons the No. 3 seed in the 2024 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. The Maroons will travel to second-seeded Randolph-Macon College and face No. 6 Guilford College on Friday in a first-round matchup.
Virginia Wesleyan will host the fourth, fifth, and eighth seeded teams in a double-elimination "NCAA regional-style" pod while the Yellow Jackets will welcome the third, sixth, and seventh seeded teams to Ashland. Roanoke College (26-12, 16-6) and the University of Lynchburg (27-11, 15-7) earned the third and fourth seeds outright. Bridgewater College (18-22, 11-11) finished solo fifth, but tiebreakers were needed to determine the final three seeds among five teams.
Pod play is slated to begin on Friday, May 3 and continue through Sunday, May 5. Each team will play once on day one, with three games scheduled on day two. The third day will feature either one or two games depending upon the results in the double-elimination format.
The two advancing teams from the pod play will meet the following week/weekend on the highest remaining seed's campus in a best-of-three championship series. Definitive game times and dates will be determined following pod play and will take into account possible graduation festivities for the competitors. The three games will be scheduled in a window from Thursday, May 9 through Saturday, May 11.
