Songs on this Ampex/Bearsville version of the cassette are rearranged and edited for time so both sides are exact. Edited songs are badly edited

This is mono? Devil’s bite, who’s that man sure sounds like stereo on my system. But, wow! Sure sounds great!!! The sound on this reissue blows away my OG copy. Night and day!

Nobody has pointed out that the alternate sequence on this version, which starts with the a cappella "There Are No Words" segment into the more chaotic mix of "Devil's Bite" FUCKIN' RIPS. If only this kind of savagery had hit the shelves in 1970.

Got this today. Longtime Todd Rundgren fan. Was excited to hear this alternate, alternate mix of his solo debut. Paper sleeve lists the songs from the original mix, not the alternate mix track listing, which is ok,, But the vinyl needed a good cleaning right out of the package. Surface noise noticeable in quiet passages. For a special release, surprised to see cover not glued together on the bottom. I thought it was the design at first, but then saw the dried glue that wasn’t pressed together on manufacture. 45 is cool, but the alternate mix on the full length is the highlight. Looking forward to listening all the way through, then comparing to the original release!

Exactly as PeaceLove point out, this release sounds muddy and distorted, my copy even has multiple sections on track 3 where you can hear notorious drops in the volume. I deep cleaned mine thinking that was why it sounded like speaking with your hands in your mouth, and while most of the crackles and pops were gone, it keeps sounding like shit. Try another release, even some modern reissue will go better than this, I think.

Todd didn't have it totally together yet. Some tunes don't work. 'Once Burned' sounds like Leon Redbone imitating Dr. John imitating The Band. 'Birthday Carol' gets lost in its own maze and dies. But, in context of Todd being, what 22 ?? and it being 1970, this hits on the next level. The production and engineering is already full of the surprises what you come to expect of TR. Overall, not a totally cohesive set, but a great starting point with a coupla memorable songs. TR got better and better with successive releases.

This cant be from 1971, it has a bar code on the back and those weren't used until the 80s

This 8 track is not quad. There is no quad of
the performer. It was in preparation then
to release a Quadraphonic CD4 LP.

Got a copy of this from the local shop that was still sealed after 51 years and was surprised when I cracked it open and saw the matrix/runout info. So bare bones. Anyone have any idea where this was pressed or cut or anything?

Sadly, it didn't sound all that great, although I've only ever listened to a digital copy of this album so I don't know how it compares to other pressings. There is some distortion in parts, it sounds a little muddy in others, and it had a decent amount of surface crackle despite getting a wet clean with Tergikleen and rinse with distilled water before play.

I played an original 1976 pressing of Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak just after this to make sure my equipment wasn't the issue, and while it was not an audiophile experience, it sounded really good and was quite a contrast after playing Runt.

I guess the search continues for this album for me, but that's part of the fun, right?

Up there at the top for me in terms of Todds output along with Something/Anything, A Wizard and the debut Utopia album. Music On Vinyl have smashed this release (mine being no. 0512) as id hoped and pretty much expected. Mine is semi translucent marbled "gold" and looks stunning for it. The LP is flat and quiet enough to really let the musc come from nr silence and its most enjoyable for it. Not their best sleeve tbf and this is always MOV main weakness at times but i can get over that very quickly when the main event is such outstanding quality!
