Rise and shine! With more than 40 years on TV, it’s understandable why there’s so much interest in who the Good Morning America cast is married to and dating in real life and what the love lives of the morning program’s beloved hosts and anchors look like off the air. 

Good Morning America, also known as GMA, is ABC’s morning television program featuring a range of topics including news, interviews, weather forecasts, special-interest stories, and popular culture segments. 

The program premiered on November 3, 1975, with original anchors David Hartman and Nancy Dussault. Since then, more than a dozen anchors have sat at Good Morning America‘s famous New York City desk, ranging from journalists like Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos to former NFL players like Michael Strahan. 

The anchors and hosts of Good Morning America have been mainstays in American households for more than four decades. But what do their home lives look like when they’re not on the air front of millions of viewers? Read on to see who the Good Morning America cast is married to and dating in real life. 

Robin Roberts

Robin Roberts — who joined Good Morning America as a news anchor in 2002 before she was promoted to co-anchor — is married to Amber Laign, a licensed massage therapist and the co-founder of the CBD and essential oils brand Plant Juice Oils.

Roberts and Laign married on September 8, 2023, in the backyard of their home. Roberts’ childhood pastor officiated the ceremony. They met on a blind date in July 2005. “15 years ago I met you for drinks on a blind date that both you and I tried to cancel … twice,” Laign wrote in an Instagram post in 2020 for the couple’s 15-year anniversary. “Your grace caught my eye right away and the ease of the evening continued to flow through dinner.”

George Stephanopoulos

George Stephanopoulos — who joined Good Morning America as a co-anchor in 2009 — is married to  Alexandra “Ali” wentworth, an actress and comedian who has starred in shows like In Living Color, Seinfeld, Felicity, and Will & Grace.

Stephanopoulos and Wentworth married on November 20, 2001. They met on a blind date in April 2001 and got engaged two moonths later. They share two daughters: Elliot Anastasia, born in 2002, and Harper Andrea, born in 2005. 

“Even that [marriage] felt like tick tock, mister. What’s the hold up?” Wentworth told People in 2018 of her and Stephanopoulos’ fast engagement. “I was just like, let’s get married. Let’s start our lives together.”

Michael Strahan

Michael Strahan — who Good Morning America in 2016 as a co-anchor — has been married twice. He was married to his first wife, interior designer and decorator Wanda Hutchins from 1992 to 1996. They share two children: daughter Tanita, born in 1991, and son Michael Anthony Jr., born in 1994.

He was married to his second wife, cosmetics store manager Jean Muggli, from 1999 to 2006. They share twin daughters, Isabella and Sophia, born in 2004. 

Strahan got engaged to Eddie Murphy’s ex-wife, Nicole Mitchell, in 2009. However, the two never married and broke up their engagement in 2014. Strahan strted dating his current girlfriend, wellness supplement company owner Kayla Quick, in 2015. 

“Personally, getting divorced is probably one of the toughest things I’ve ever gone through but it was also a learning experience and I learned a lot about myself,” Strahan told People in 2016 of his two divorces.

Lara Spencer

Lara Spencer — who joined Good Morning America as a reporter in 1999 before she was promoted to co-host— has been married twice. She was to her first husband, real estate broker David Haffenreffer, from 2000 to 2015. They share two children: daughter Katharine Paige, born in 2004, and son Duff, born in 2002.

Spencer married her second and current husband, entrepreneur Richard McVey, in 2018. 

Ginger Zee

Ginger Zee — who joined Good Morning America as a co-host and chief meteorologist in 2013 — is married to WNBC reporter Benjamin Aaron Colonomos. They married on June 7, 2014 and share two children: son Adrian, born in 2015, and son Miles Macklin, born in 2018.

Zee and Colonomos started dating in 2012 after meeting at a charity event through a mutual friend. He proposed the following year.“Ben is my partner for life,” Zee told People in 2014. “I knew it as soon as I met him. I’ve never been more ready for anything in my life.”

Diane Sawyer

Diane Sawyer was an an anchor on Good Morning America from 1999 to 2009. Her husband is Mike Nichols, a director, actor, and producer who is one of 19 people who have one all four major American entertainment awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. He also won an AFI Lifetime Achivevement Award in 2010 and has 42 Academy Award nominations, at the time of writing this. Nichols is best known as the director behind movies like Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Graduate, Catch-22, Silkwood, and Working Girl.

Sawyer and Nichols married on April 29, 1988. He died on November 19, 2014. He was 83 years old. While Sawyer and Nichols never had any children together, she was a stephmother to Nichols’ three children with his ex-wives. Nichols shared daughter Daisy, born in 1964, with his second wife, Margot Callas. He also shared two children, son Max and daughter Jenny, with his third wife, Annabel Davis-Goff.

Charles Gibson

Charles Gibson was an anchor on Good Morning America from 1987 to 2006. His wife is Arlene Gibson, an educator who retired as the head of The Spence School in New York City in 2006.

Gibson and his wife married in 1968 and share two children: daughters Jessica and Katherine. Jessica welcomed Gibson and his wife’s first grandchild in 2006.

Kevin Newman

Kevin Newman — who was an anchor on Good Morning America from 1998 to 1999 — is married to journalist Cathy Kearns. They share two children: a son named Alex and a daughter named Eric. Newman and his son, Alex, published a co-written memoir, All Out: A Father and Son Confront the Hard Truths That Made Them Better Men, in 2015 about their relationship before and after Alex came out as gay at 17 years old. 

Lisa McRee

Lisa McRee was an anchor on Good Morning America from 1997 to 1999. Her husband is Don Granger, a producer who is best known for movies like Jack Reacher, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Baywatch, Top Gun: Maverick, and Terminator: Dark Fate. 

McRee and Granger married in 1996 and share one child, according to her IMDb. 

Joan Lunden

Joan Lunden was an anchor on Good Morning America from 1980 to 1997.

She was married to her first husband, television segment producer Michael Krauss, from 1978 to 1992. They share three daughters: Jamie, Lindsay, and Sarah. Lunden converted to Judaism to marry Krauss.

Lunden married her second husband, Camp Takajo owner Jeff Konisberg, in 2000. They share four children and two sets of twins: Jack and Kim, born in 2005, and Kate and Max, born in 2003. Both sets of twins were born via surrogacy.

David Hartman

David Hartman was an anchor on Good Morning America from 1975 to 1987. He was the first male news anchor on the program. He married his wife, Maureen Downey, in 1974. They remained married until her death on September 17, 1997. The two shared four children.

He married his second wife, Mary Clark Putman, a widowed homemaker, in 2001.

Nancy Dussault

Nancy Dussault was an anchor on Good Morning America from 1975 to 1977. She was the first female news anchor on the program.

She’s been married twice. Her first husband is James Dunton Travis, an advetising executive. She married her second husband, director Valentine Mayer, on February 24, 1985.
