  • Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin hints at Pitch Perfect 4 continuing the story of the Barden Bellas.

Rebel Wilson, star of the Pitch Perfect trilogy, has seemingly confirmed development of Pitch Perfect 4, indicating the franchise is not finished yet. The last installment of the musical comedy film series came out in 2017, but there has been no confirmation since that the franchise will be continuing. This is despite the financial success of all three installments, even though critical scores for the final entry weren't as high as the previous two.

However, speaking with BBC Radio 2, Wilson seemingly confirmed that Pitch Perfect 4 is happening. The actor said she didn't have any information about what it would entail, but she did confirm that another movie in the franchise is being developed. Check out what Wilson's surprising update about the musical series below:

Hopefully there’s a fourth one in the works. There is one being developed. I mean, I know we’re older now, so I don’t exactly know what the storyline’s going to be. I guess they’ve got to get the script right first, which is the age-old dilemma.

What Could Pitch Perfect 4 Be About?

Hints about a possible Pitch Perfect 4 have come from the actors of the original trilogy since the previous entry in the franchise came out. However, Wilson's comment is the first confirmation that the series will be continuing in movie form at some point in the future. The franchise already has a spinoff in the form of the TV series Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, which saw Adam DeVine reprise his role from the original movies. However, there has been no direct continuation of the story on the big screen for quite some time.

Despite lackluster reviews for Pitch Perfect 3, the final film in the trilogy was a financial success, earning $185.4 million against a $45 million budget at the box office. Because of this, it's possible a legacy sequel may end up having the same level of success, especially if actors like Wilson are brought back. However, with so little information about the movie currently available, it's unclear what it would entail or how many original actors would return to their roles. But its development is already a positive sign for the series' future.

Given DeVine's return to the franchise in a TV spinoff, it would make sense for the next movie to bring old cast members back, keeping the story evolving over time. While it's unclear where everyone's characters would be following the end of the previous movie, the Pitch Perfect franchise could use a fourth installment to reunite everyone in a satisfying way. With plenty of ways the story of a new entry could be developed, Wilson's confirmation is an exciting confirmation that the story of the Barden Bellas isn't over just yet.
