Gus Linden, former racketeer head of a Detroit local of the United Automobile Workers of America, A.F.L, attempts to destroy his successor, Blair Vicker, so he can put his old rackets back into the auto factories. Vickers fights him off, ultimately winning help from Linden's attractive daughter Barbara and from Joni Calvin, Vickers' moll.

Some top notch slappering from Tina Carver as Dennis O'Keefe and Pat O'Brien face off in a battle of the O's over some union cobblers. The skid row budget is belied by the miles of rear projection scenes but it barrels along nicely with some pretty stark for the time violence - best moment being some exquisite goon squishing by train. Choo choo that dope.
A passable entry into the glorious B-Movie canon of Sam Katzman and Fred F. Sears, these boys knew how to throw a genre film together in double quick time. Starting from 1952 until Sears' joined The Giant Claw in the sky at the untimely age of 44 in 1957 producing such classics as Teen-Age Crime Wave, Rock Around the Clock and Earth vs. the Flying Saucers along the way.
Life hack: when giving dreary speeches ensure you stand under a crane claw filled with several tons of steel.
kinda interesting as an object lesson in how trade unionism was defanged and reintegrated into american bourgeois ideology, if not much else – a labor film where we never see anyone working, the union figured as a protector of Law & Order operating in lockstep with the police and the INS, maintaining the natural harmony between workers and bosses, threatened by "sinister outside forces" (mobsters, but the subtext is clear). worth noting, additionally, that the mob boss's one weakness proves to be not only his infidelity, but his careless treatment of the mistress herself – even in a film whose drama is ostensibly that of the Factory, the Family must still remain the organizing matrix of social life
This is a real solid noir with interesting characters and dynamics. And O’Keefe is great as always.
My favorite line from this film: “What’s the matter with us? We’re a million men that’ll be ruled by a few with guns.”
Not a bad film, there were several good moments amidst all the over-acting.
