I came across this performance on YouTube. I thought I would listen to a couple of songs, but ended up watching the entire concert, then immediately coming here to see if it was available. Luckily it was and I honestly have been listening to it almost everyday since! This is an amazing concert. Cris Bonacci is awesome and breath taking (yes breath taking) to see play live. She is an amazing guitarist to watch and hear. Also really like the vocals of Jackie Bodimead. Kelly Johnson and Kim McAuliffe both did vocals very well, but Jackie's voice was a little more polished and an awesome front person. She sounds great on the original songs recorded by her and definitely does justice to the previous Girlschool songs. Kim is awesome as well, sharing vocals with Jackie. Denise Dufort is one of the best drummers and never misses a beat. Gil Weston-Jones is no slouch. She is a great bassist and has an amazing smile thru most of the concert. There are several songs that I thought the studio versions were good, but totally awesome here. I just can't say enough good things about this dvd. I've been a Runaways fan since 1976, but I think these girls would definitely give them a run for their money and many people would probably conclude they are the more proficient musicians as well as song writers.

Being a HUGE fan of Girlschool, and having a copy of this on VHS that someone made for me (the 30 second intro on the DVD is different than on the VHS, but other than that it's the same show), it was kinda nice to get this on DVD and for not too bad of a price. True, it would be better to have a show during the time of their 1st or 2nd lps when they were heavier, but until that time comes (let's cross our fingers and /or pray),this will be worth getting for those who like the sound (and look!) of an all female band who never drastically altered their sound for the worse. Some weaker moments creep in ("Play Dirty" for example, which doesn't have the bite that a song like "Kick it down" could have provided). And, this was during the time when their Running Wild album came out, which has a bit of a poppier sound than their previous CDs. Thankfully, the better half of those 10 songs are included here. Due to the fact that Running Wild was never released on CD (I only have on cassette) makes this a cool purchase. This does include Jackie Bodimead doing lead vocals on some songs -and keyboards which honestly I can't hear at all. Talk about hair metal to the extreme! The other girls perform great (in tight black pants as I'm sure you need to know!), especially drummer Denise who hits it harder and much more often than the drummer for AC/DC! Lead guitarist Chris Bonacci does a pretty good job in filling Kelly Johnson's shoes. A good concert for the most part, and until another DVD comes out (hopefully an early show with Kelly), this is certainly better than going without. One final note: I had the supreme privilge of seeing Girlschool play at the Milwaukee Metalfest in 1993. They played last on the bill after all the "big" names played and left (Ice T's Bodycount, Flotsam and Jetsam, Testament, etc.)and their short set(around 25 min) was the highlight of the evening. Trouble disappointed by not showing up as advertised, so the sight of Denise walking on stage was one of the best things I've seen in my life. And when I asked the lady getting ready to play guitar what her name was (she definately was not Chris Bonacci) and she replied with "Kelly", people freaked out! Someone exclaimed "Kelly is back"! I would love to have THAT show on DVD! They also played shortly afterward in Chicago at the Thirsty Whale (probably a much longer show), but the internet provides some glimpses of the Kelly era. Not much in the way of extras on this DVD, it does show other available items, however, in the same series including a Magnum DVD which has aroused my interest.

Play Dirty Live was what this concert was called when I purchased it on VHS years ago. I've watched it so many times it is truly a wonder I never wore it out. I don't know why so many ripped on Girlschool's "Running Wild" album which this concert performance has many of the songs from since it was to be released at the time. I still consider it probably my favorite Girlschool album.

I thought Jackie Bodimead was fantastic, and was a bit disheartened when she never made another Girlschool record. I still feel her and Chris Bonacci were the two most interesting on stage (especially during "Can't You See" "999" and "Running Wild". Possibly because they were both leads.

I'm still grateful I have my treasured VHS copy of this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quelle pêche !!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars. Definitely !!!!!

About five minutes into this energetic one hour set, you almost begin to forget that you are watching and listening to Girlschool. Guitarist Kelly Johnson has made way for a little firecracker from down under by the name of Cris Bonacci and Kim McAuliffe is augmented on lead vocals by the platinum-topped Jackie Bodimead. There also appears to be a Roland Jupiter 8 synthesiser on stage, not that we actually hear it. Recorded at the Camden Palace in 1984, this is a well-judged and impressive performance that vastly surpasses expectations. Bonacci, wearing, appropriately, a shredded top, shreds the life out of her guitar, whilst drummer Denise Dufort pounds away like a dynamo. If they'd toured America, opening for Bon Jovi or Poison, they'd have blown the headliners away. As it was, the five-piece line-up didn't last long enough to make any real impression. Savour this gig, but lament the fact that the album that followed (`Running Wild') contained very little of the raw power displayed here. The night belongs to Bonacci and Dufort; although special mention should be given to Bodimead's hair, which puts Jon Bon Jovi's famous barnet in the shade. Even in this far from typical line up, Girlschool were a force to be reckoned with.
Cheers you lot!

3.0 out of 5 stars

1.C'mon Let's Go 2.Nowhere To Run 3.You Got Me 4.Play Dirty 5.Love Is A Lie 6.Hit And Run 7.Future Flash 8.Rock Me Shock Me 9.Running For Cover 10.Can't You See 11.Running Wild 12.I Like It Like That 13.Are You Rady? 14.Emergency
