The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will have commuters riding new zero-emission buses soon.
MTA CEO Janno Lieber announced the delivery of 60 of the buses, that will operate on routes throughout the city, specifically in environmental justice and historically disadvantages communities.
"I always say mass transit is the antidote to climate change and zero-emissions buses are key to our ability to improve air quality,” said Lieber. “They help reduce harmful pollutants and create better health outcomes."
Lieber also added residents in these historically disadvantaged communities have struggled disproportionately with the impacts of bad air quality resulting in high rates of asthma and other bad health outcomes.
