David Mitchell has received much official recognition and his awards include 'Time' Best Book of the Year ('Black Swan Green'), Man Booker Prize shortlist ('Cloud Atlas'), Booker Prize shortlist and James Tait Black Memorial Prize shortlist ('Number9Dream'), Mail on Sunday/John Llewellyn Rhys Prize for best book by a writer under 35 and the Guardian First Book Award shortlist ('Ghostwritten').
