Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place looks like a big garden shed, but don't let appearances put you off. An amazing selection of teas available, good space right by the shore of lake, lovely people serving. Everything you might hope to find for a snack and a rest, and if you're feeling energetic there are boats to hire.

Very unfriendly and unhelpful. I had to walk for a mile with my paddle board on my back because the owner wouldn't let me pay to launch by foot, even though I was going to end my journey at a different spot on the lake. I had to walk back to the hotel for another mile in the rain because it wasn't worth staying out. I planned this visit 6 months ago! I also sent a message in advance and they ignored it.

He was very rude. The place looks a bit run down, perhaps it was nice years ago, who knows. I just wouldn't bother going here, it seems that they don't want the business and visitors are an inconvenience.

Very nice secluded spot. Good little cafe and rowing boat hire too.
A bit pricey, but isn’t everything in the Lakes these days?

Came upon this lovely little cafe right next to the Lake at Grasmere. It ticked all the boxes for a great coffee and carrot cake. Scenery stunning, setting peaceful and they hire row boats.

Got locked in after having tea and popping into Grasmere to use the facilities. Completely our fault. Phone number was left on the windscreen with a polite message. Everyone we dealt with was friendly, helpful and understanding when we interrupt their evenings. Managed to sort getting a spare key from somebody local who was also very helpful. Plus the cakes and tea were delicious! Beautiful spot and will be returning! Thanks to everyone involved.

Baffled. Thought this would be a lovely experience. Admittedly we had a mix up with the time we were supposed to be back but as we raced to get back we heard screams from the angry Scottish man in a canoe.

He didn’t stop there, as were were trying to row back he kept screaming ‘what is your problem’ and how ‘some tw*t’ always ruins his bank holiday.

When we got back to the dock and in front of everyone he kept hurling abuse despite us apologist about the mix up and he did this in front of the whole picnic area.

We were charged the full 2nd hour despite us getting back only 25 mins late with the barrage of abuse.

Honestly never been spoken to like this in my life.

Fantastic idea, just run by someone who has no control over their emotions. Sad really

I love this little cafe! The location is beautiful and the Gypsy caravan on site add to the rustic feel of the cafe. I usually have herbal teas when I visit which are lovely. The tea pot is more than enough and the prices are very reasonable. Unfortunately there is no longer a toilet for customers and the nearest one is in the Grassmere village for a 60p fee using a debit/credit card only.

We visit Grasmere at least once a year, and always stop off here for a snack.
Excellent choice of tea, coffee, cakes, scones and other foods with lovely views across the lake. Boats for hire also. Plenty wildlife wandering around.
But what is a disgrace is the owners complete lack of respect for his customers in not providing toilet facilities. He needs to understand the law, that if you serve food and drink to be consumed on the premises and you have more than 10 seats, then you need to offer this.
It is really not too much to ask.
There were multiple requests from paying customers within our visit, and they were none too happy with the answer of no, sorry, we do not have a toilet.
I am sure that many will not return because of this.

Been here a few times and always enjoyed it. The gardens are lovely and the view of the lake is beautiful. Even saw some deer swim across it. Highly recommended

Great cakes, coffee and teas! A very nice stop before the walk back to Chapel Stile. Nice to sit outside and relax. I would recommend this stop for a treat!
