Overall, I think NPHS is a pretty good high school in terms of academics. I chose to attend here because of the ease of access to AP and IB classes--from what I've heard, other districts make their students jump through lots of hoops to take APs, but I didn't need to do that at NPHS apart from taking one or two prerequisite classes. I also think the culture of the IB program specifically is wonderful, and everyone from the IB teachers to fellow students contributes to this sense of community. But despite this, I was honestly pretty lonely because I had my freshman year online, and pretty much all of the students knew each other already (I transferred from another school district, but many kids here come from middle schools within the district). The campus isn't very clean, though--kids throw food on the ground all the time so you always have to watch your step. But there are lots of clubs here. My favorites were Mock Trial, Science Olympiad, and DnD.
My experience at Newbury Park is in the middle. The school has great education classes but has some disruptive students. And its not just in one class. The events we have are fun but there are not that many I wish there were. There are classes and clubs in which people can make friends or express themselves. The school food is not that great but it's nice to have hashbrowns I n the morning. The school helps us and supports us to get into our future careers. They help us get into dual enrollment so that we can apply for classes at college and collect credits for our high school and college classes. Sometimes when you go to school at Newbury the staff encourages us to make new friends and get to know are classmates. I love the spirit days they are the best things to look forward too. But the thing that would be good to have is more spirit days. The teachers are nice and some are more strict so its good to get work in on time to ensure you get the best outcome in class. This school is fun
Newbury Park High School is overall a good school. It has many flaws and is definitely not the right learning environment for me, but I know many people who are very happy here.
Firstly, there is too much conflict not enough involvement. My friend was harassed by a boy at our school, but the school didn't take this seriously because said offender was in the special education department.
Secondly, the learning environments can tend to be distracting. It's understandable how they wouldn't be the best in CP courses, but the extent of it is awful. In multiple classes, the teachers are continually disrespected and the disrespect is largely ignored, making the situation repetitive and disruptive to teachers and students alike.
Thirdly, the school system is set up in a way where teachers can have their own points grading systems, so even if I did all of my work and did it well, I still might not receive a grade update.
Overall, I think Newbury Park High School is great, if not a fixer-upper.
