My husband and I and another couple visited Allegro Playacar Feb 12-19. We stayed in 3511 and 3512. Here is my overall review.

Facilities and room: the grounds and facilities were all very clean and beautiful with lots of pretty flowers and walkways. The 2 pools were very nice and clean. Our room was cleaned daily and well kept other than our fan light missing it’s cover. We did have some ants in our room but I reported it to the staff and they came and sprayed right away, no issue really. The room fridge had beer, soda and water and we were able to get the maid to give us extra beer. The ac only functioned about half of the time which made sleeping a little uncomfortable. The shower worked great and we spent a lot of morning time on our deck watching the little animals chase each other around. I will comment that even being a little distance from the nighttime entertainment stage it seemed rather loud, I would avoid staying in a room close to it!

Beach: the beach is absolutely beautiful and well maintained!! All of the things I discussed above about the room really don’t matter much because you spend basically no time in there because the beach and pool are so nice!!

Staff: the staff was all very friendly, minus the initial pressure to attend the timeshare meeting. Our favorite drink man on the beach was Claudio May, he truly was the best! Claudio always kept us stocked with drinks and knew our names after the first day, super friendly and kind! If you stay here I hope you are blessed enough to have Claudio as your drink man!!

Food: our favorite meal of the day was probably breakfast. Almost daily we went to the breakfast buffet for a fresh made omelette. The grill gal whipped up a mean omelette and it would usually tide us over until a snack by the pool (the French fries are yummy and the pizza isn’t bad) or supper. We ate at all of the reservation restaurants and they were all very good.

Drinks: the drinks were good but lacked alcohol. We quickly figured this out and would request double or triple shots in our drinks.

The area: we went running daily on the road behind the resort and felt safe. We also walked into playa del Carmen on the beach and on the sidewalk and always felt safe. The little shopping center right behind the resort was also nice.

Bottom line....we will be back and had a wonderful vacation!

We stayed 2 nights here and were not disappointed. For the price we paid, we had a great stay. The food was average but the service and the staff were really nice and helpful. The room was big and clean however be careful where they put you, if you are in building 42 there might be a lot of noise because of a generator or washing machines. I complained and they gave us the option to change but as we only had a short stay we decided to stay in our room.
The internet is also something which was a bit annoying. It is not included in your stay so be prepared to add the price of internet to the total price of your stay (35$ for 3 days 45$ for 7 days and it’s for 1 device) All in all if you want a good priced all inclusive from which you can go on excursions, I would recommend you stay here.

We stayed at the Allegro Playacar for Christmas and had a fantastic time. We were a group of 14 and we were treated very well, always managing to sit together or near each other. The beach was amazing. Only the last day was there some seaweed, no fault of the resort. The rooms were very clean and had a private balcony with a hammock. They were noisy especially in the top floor. We had a baby crying behind us 4 of 7 nights and it sounded that it was night in our room!!! ! There were only 2-3 TV channels in English, but they came in handy for nieces and nephews who got sick! The property is beautiful, compact and well maintained. It was a short 5 min walk to the Plaza Playacar, with shopping and a pharmacy, and a 20-30 min walk into Playa Del Carmen. ALL staff were friendly and professional, working long hours. Shout out to Carlos and Jesus at the pool, Ana at reception, Inis at the buffet, and the older gentleman server at the Italian restaurant. Service was the same always with a smile with or without a tip, although they deserve a tip every meal. The food was always varied and outstanding! The meal and ambiance on December 24th was second to none. There were many sunloungers available at any time of the day. The pool bar didn't serve alcohol until noon. They had a snack area, with hotdogs, pizza and nachos. Drinks were served in reused cups, you may want to take a Yeti or Bubba. We met many return guests and we know why. I would definitly return.

My boyfriend and I travelled almost 20 hours from London to get to Allegro Playcar. We had to change room instantly due to the noise from the entertainment stage a few meters away. If you’re suffering from a bit of jet lag you can’t sleep because of the ridiculously loud music. Our first room had no hot water and the main light & fan didn’t work. The shower door didn’t shut properly so there was water all over the floor all the time.
Don’t expect to be having breakfast on the beach ! There is one dark canten like buffet meters away from the beach where you have to have breakfast and dinner. The hotel claim to have various bars / restaurants. There aren’t. There are two buffet / bars and that’s it.
When you sit around the pool the entertainment staff play very loud reggaeton all day. If that’s not your vibe then you have no choice but to listen to it.
Don’t give these people your clothes to be cleaned. I sent an expensive trench coat to be dry cleaned with the promise that it would be returned by 5pm the next day. The jacket was never returned. I had to visit reception 5 times during the last few hours of my holiday when I should have been relaxing. The staff at the reception do try to help however some members are simply incompetent with a low level of English . I wouldn’t suggest staying at allegro playacar if you can’t speak Spanish.
My transfer is collecting us for the airport in 2 hours and I still haven’t been given my £90 jacket.

We had such high hopes when we booked this trip, but the hotel experience left us with much to be desired during our family trip to Playa del Carmen. Good thing there are plenty of things to do in the area to compensate for this lackluster hotel. POSITIVES: The hotel has a nice esthetic on the outside: small villas with thatched roofs, clean and lighted walkways, and the grounds are very lush and well maintained. The presence of animals and birds throughout the property was great. They don't use power tools for landscaping so no noisy machinery during the day. The AC in the rooms works well and the pools are decent. The beach location is excellent, and the waitstaff is super friendly at both the pool bar and the main buffet. The housekeeping and bell service staff was also very friendly. We were there during the rainy season, so it was a nice perk to have umbrellas made available by the hotel for us to use. NEGATIVES: The front desk staff is quite lacking in attention and friendliness. They don't seem to care that you are not having a good stay at their hotel. The towel service for the pool is a joke. They don't adequately staff the towel desk and you end up waiting for a long long time if you are there before 9 am or after 4 pm. Caution: you need to turn your towels in all the way down by the pool before you are allowed to checkout at the front desk. This means that if they're not open when you need to checkout, you end up running back and forth through the resort until finally the front desk grudgingly accepts to take your towels in lieu of the towel card. The front desk doesn't provide much information at all about the services or amenities at the hotel when you arrive. The rooms do not have any information or hotel literature either, so you don't know what time buffet services are or what the entertainment schedule is. You kind of just have to wander over to the theater to see what is going on. The rooms look like they haven't been updated in many years. They have thatched roofs, so we had a bird that had built a nest right inside the soffit of our room and would kindly wake us up every morning at 5 am. The walls of the rooms are paper thin, so we could hear every conversation our neighbors had, day and night. We booked three rooms and one of the rooms had a leak over the sink by the second day there. The light outside our villa over the stairs did not work, so it was treacherous to go up and down the concrete steps in the rain. My daughter actually split open her toe on the stairs the night before we checked out. The food in the buffet was a terrible disappointment. There is so much great food in Mexico, and everywhere we went it was fantastic, except for at the hotel. I think they need to hire a new chef. There were only a select few items that were actually tasty and the variety was extremely limited. Overall, their Front Desk staff, the actual rooms, and the food are the areas that need a major overhaul.

The hotel reception staff lie from the beginning by saying Tv would be in the room next day 4 days later after complaining twice daily did it arrive but in the meantime enduring 3 days of cold showers. I finally lost it and demanded they do something about the shower being cold. The food is bland and and cold on the buffet and bacon needs to be ordered but you have to find that out for yourself. Tea and coffee are served without sugar or spoons which take an eternity to arrive after several requests. If you want to book the a la carte restaurant be prepared to queue for an hour. The towels are never available at 8 am try 9 ish
Just poor quality all round pay £50 more and I’m sure other resorts will be much better. It isn’t worth a penny and weather unpredictable in November not really Caribbean.

We stayed at the Allegro Playacar February 1st thru 6th, and this is a fantastic resort.

We found the resort clean, nicely lay out with everything within a short walk. We were placed in a upper floor room right next to the quiet pool and found this location to be perfect. There are two pools separated by the lunch buffet/pool bar building which is also the Mexican Restaurant in the evening. The ocean side pool is the noisy pool with all the activities and music along with the swim up bar. The other side is the quite side with plenty of shade and chairs.

The food at the main buffet located on the upper floor of the main building was good, with something for everyone, in the morning they had a station where they would do eggs or omelets to order, and we never went hungry. Usually during lunch down by the pools they would have one of the chiefs cooking a daily specialty item pool side in addition to the lunch buffet, this we found to be a nice touch.
We found the staff to be extremely friendly, and interested in talking with you, and insuring you had everything you needed and that you were enjoying your stay.

The Beach is beautiful, I would say that Playacar has the best beach in the area; it was clean and well maintained.

Overall we had a fantastic time at the Allegro Playacar, and would definitely go back to the resort!

Our Stay We returned home after a 11 week stay at the Allegro Playacar at the end of March 2020. We had planned to stay another week but had to return home early due to the Covid-19 virus. We have been to this hotel for 17 years in a row, & sometimes twice a year. We find that this hotel welcomes many couples who stay for longer periods of time. (3 weeks, 1 month, 2 months…)

Accommodations & Hotel Grounds Our room was quiet, very clean & comfortable. The maids who cleaned our room were very helpful. If you needed anything, you had only to ask them. The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained with many tropical plants & trees, with less concrete.

Food The food was consistently very good. Our biggest problem was trying to keep our weight down. We found that there was a large selection of choices @ each meal. There are 3 specialty restaurants available by reservation by the front desk. We enjoyed suppers @ each of the Italian, the Oriental & the Mexican restaurants. Also available are pizza, daily chef beach specials, plus ice cream & other snacks.

Special Events The hotel does a great job for all special holidays & events.

Hotel Staff One of the biggest pluses of this hotel is their wonderful & helpful staff. It is always a pleasure to see the same pleasant faces year after year. We have stayed at many other hotels & there is no comparison at all.

Weather This year had outstanding weather – it only rained 1 or 2 days during our entire stay.

Water/Beach/Seaweed The beaches remained clean & clear of seaweed during our stay except for a bit on the last couple of days. We were able to walk down the beach to the Ferry Terminal in town every day. The ocean is so clean & clear that it makes you want to jump in & stay there.

Shopping in Playacar & Playa Del Carmen To indulge your shopping pleasures, you can take a few steps from the front lobby to the little shopping center in Playacar for a few things. For a larger selection of stores, a walk to town is just a short 20-30 min. walk by sidewalk or beach.

Excursions You may book excursions through the hotel or at several kiosks close by. Most excursions pick up & drop off from the hotel lobby. Numerous excursions in the area are available-with some to suit everyone.

Conclusion We chose this hotel because it has a more traditional feel to it & each hotel building has fewer rooms. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable hotel with wonderful staff on a large beautiful beach, this is the hotel for you. Enjoy paradise.

My husband & I celebrated our 30th Anniversary on August 24 with a week at the Allegro Playacar. We couldn't be happier with our stay. The rooms were cleaned throughly daily by pleasant staff who also stocked the mini fridge with requested beverages daily, the concierge Izreal was amazing and very helpful, the food was awesome and the waiters Humberto, Alfredo and Alejandro were the best waiters , they cleared plates quickly, offered drinks, offered to get items from buffet and always smiling while doing it. This is our second stay at the Allegro and we're already planning a third. We highly recommend the Allegro, you will not be disappointed as they treat their guests wonderful. Thank you Allegro staff you Excell at customer service.

This seemed like a great resort the first day, but the longer we stayed the more disappointing it became. We spent a week here and by day three we were growing increasingly frustrated. We didn't have hot water in the rooms the last four days of the trip. The a/c worked the first two days and then wouldn't get below 25 degrees Celsius no matter what it was set at. The bed was rock hard. The buffet was the only place to eat for breakfast and dinner and had the same food everyday. Lunch was a small buffet between the pools and also had the same limited selection each day. The wifi was free but only worked sometimes and was very slow when it did work. We took our own covid tests to return to the US and we had to go to Starbucks to use their wifi because the resorts wifi was so slow (.28 mbps). When going to the front desk for service they acted like they didn't know there was an ongoing problem for days on end. If you tried calling reception from your room it would ring for a minute then say the voicemail box was full. On a plus side, the waitstaff was extremely friendly and went out of your way to learn your name, coffee order at breakfast and drink order at the pool. They had kayaks you could use for 1 hour each day that were located two resorts down the beach. The beach was pretty, but the waves were big and strong, not a place for kids or people who aren't strong swimmers to enter the ocean beyond wading. Overall, this was a beautiful property but needs a ton of maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. I wouldn't recommend staying here. Only gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because of the wait staff. We travel a few times a year and don't expect 5 star resorts or amenities, but this place didn't even maintain the basics like running water.

We had AC in our rooms but dining hall only one area seem to have AC that is part of Italian restaurant that you need reservations but is often open for all meals, I think. When you walk in to the main "cafeteria", they seat you usually. Most of the food areas had fans but can still be warm do to the food? We did not visit the Asian restaurant so can not speak to that.

Yes pool towels were provided. You ask for "towel cards" at the front desk and exchange it at the towel hut. If you lose it, it's $100 USD unfortunately when we checked in the afternoon, they only had 5 cards left for our party of 6 but it was fine, we were able to get the 6th card the next day.
