Elgin Academy head teacher Kyle Scott reflects on 14 year tenure at the school

ELGIN Academy's head teacher, Kyle Scott, is bidding farewell to the school today after a remarkable 14-year tenure.

Mr Scott is taking up the head teacher post at Kemnay Academy, which will allow him to be closer to his home and family in Aberdeenshire.

Mr Scott, who has been at Elgin Academy since May 5, 2010 and initially served as the head of PE before becoming head teacher six years ago. During the six years of his leadership, Elgin Academy has achieved record breaking exam results, experienced the changes from the pandemic and become the first school in Moray to receive a gold reading schools award, among many other achievements from pupils and staff.

Reflecting on his departure, Mr Scott said: "I can't quite believe it, it has been a real journey over the last 14 years. I haven't really looked forward at all, I have just been trying my best to get everything ready to hand over to Mrs Munro [who has been appointed as acting head teacher of the school].

"Over the weekend I'll reset, get over the emotions over leaving this place and then prepare to start at Kemnay on Monday. I am very sad to be leaving, but it's new challenge."

When asked about his fondest memories at Elgin Academy, Mr Scott highlighted the people: "My vision has been all about Team EA and that togetherness, and this team is just ace," he stated. "The young people are absolutely outstanding, staff are fantastic and committed, and we've got great partners in Elgin, great parents, and carers. I was incredibly proud and privileged to be appointed head teacher of a school like this and the people are definitely what I will carry with me."

Brought up in Banchory, Mr Scott's trained as a PE teacher at Edinburgh University. Prior to joining Elgin Academy, he worked as a PE teacher at Mackie Academy in Stonehaven and Nairn Academy. Reflecting on his decision to join Elgin Academy, he said: "This was one of the best decisions I ever made. This school is a very, very special place, and I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been a part of its story over the past 14 years."

He added: "I will miss Elgin Academy and Moray a huge amount, most of all I will miss the amazing people in this community and will be forever indebted to them for the unwavering support and encouragement they have given me over the past 14 years."
