      Season 1 – Flashpoint

2008 Crime Drama Mystery & Thriller Action List
35% Tomatometer 20 Reviews 73% Audience Score Fewer than 50 Ratings Inspired by the real-life Emergency Task Force of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, this taut police drama chronicles the efforts of the Strategic Response Unit (SRU), an elite and highly skilled group of cops charged with rescuing hostages, defusing bombs and breaking up gangs. The series title comes from another part of their job, however: getting inside a suspect's head and discovering his emotional "flashpoint" that triggered the crisis in the first place. Critics Consensus

Despite its novel setting, Flashpoint is a decent but uninspired police procedural that fails to provide much depth to its SWAT team's characters.

David Hiltbrand Philadelphia Inquirer This Canadian series about a police tactical unit is clever, crisply paced and well-acted. Feb 13, 2020 Full Review Dan Fienberg The Morning Call (Allentown, PA) Despite a confident visual style and a likeable cast, "Flashpoint" stops its creative process at "generic." Feb 13, 2020 Full Review Scott Tobias AV Club Creating a merely passable entertainment appears to be its highest ambition. Sadly, it doesn't even achieve those low standards and it drags at least one immensely likable performer in Enrico Colantoni down with it. Rated: C- Oct 3, 2018 Full Review Will Harris Bullz-Eye.com It's a show which offers equal parts action and emotion. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 6, 2020 Full Review Travis Fickett IGN Movies If you're willing to watch a show that takes a different angle on a genre we've seen time and time again, then you may be pleasantly surprised. Rated: 7.8/10 Feb 13, 2020 Full Review Tom Jicha South Florida Sun-Sentinel The new series is watchable enough but it's nothing special, basically a by-the-numbers cop show. Sarah R Not bad. Recognize a few actors from other shows which always makes it better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review steve d Colantoni and Johnson carry a show that has some really intense and interesting stories. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the best police show that I've seen to date. It shows the ups and downs of police work and that sometimes not everything goes right like in real life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Pros: Well researched writing Accurate demonstration of tactical intervention outstanding acting performances (especially to enrico colantoni) Cons: props (although the tactical equipment used are realistic, their applications are not accurate to real sru operations) fOR THE AVERAGE audience, CBS' first installment to their line of shows predicated on tactical unit operations, flashpoint may seem as a show that provides no depth to its characters which is an understandable argument for a show that wishes to tell the story of a character/characters throughout a significant span of time in their lives. However, Flashpoint is not that kind of show, it is more of a documentary that showcases how the elite tactical law enforcement unit SRU operates in response to certain situations in which precise tactical intervention is necessary. This is obvious in the well researched writing that gives no notice to the civilian audience by carefully and appropriately using terms utilized by law enforcement operators during missions in which their skills are required. The writing also gives the audience the option to do some research as well. By not providing depth to the show's characters, the audience is left to put all their attention away from the characters' arcs and forces them to focus on the show's fundamental premise which is to demonstrate the Strategic Reaction Force's outstanding contribution to keeping the peace among the canadian population. I personally recommend this show to any fanatic of the tactical world because this show gets straight to the point. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
