PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a Special Meeting of the Mount Vernon City School District Board of Education will take place on Thursday, May 23, 2024, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Education Center, 165 North Columbus Ave., Mount Vernon, NY 10553.
There will be a mobile pantry at Cecil H. Parker School on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Mount Vernon City School District is pleased to present its first ever Jazz Music Festival on Thursday, May 30 and Friday, May 31, 2024. This two-day festival will take place in the Phylicia Rashad Auditorium at the Denzel Washington School of the Arts at 6:30 p.m. each night. Click here to purchase tickets online!
Denzel Washington School of the Arts will hold auditions via Zoom on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 6 p.m. Auditions will be held for acting, dance, music, musical theater, technical theater, visual arts and vocal. The Dame Dash Film Festival will be screened at Denzel Washington School of the Arts on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 7 p.m. Students from across the country will compete for their film to be streamed on the streaming services Tubi and America Nu Network.
The Mount Vernon City School District is holding the Super Health and Wellness Block Party at Mount Vernon Honor Academy from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
The Mount Vernon City School District will hold its first No Place for Hate (NPFH) Day on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Families are encouraged to walk with their children to school in support of acceptance, tolerance, allyship, diversity, equity and inclusion. The District is also asking everyone to wear a white, maroon or NPFH shirt on this day.

The American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ARP -ESSER III) provides over $9 Billion to New York State. The Mount Vernon City School District received $33.5 Million. The remaining balance for the 2023-2024 school year is $9 million.

Denzel Washington School of the Arts is holding its Spring Dance Festival in the Phylicia Rashad Auditorium on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students. Click here to buy tickets.

Nathaniel Edwards, a senior at Mount Vernon High School, was recently accepted into Vaughn College of Aeronautic Engineering, Aviation and Technology, where he will pursue a degree in the Aircraft Operations program.
Grimes School held Family Fun Math Night on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Families played educational games together and had a fun-filled night together at school.
Voters approved a $271,266,317 budget for the Mount Vernon City School District 2024-2025 school year by a 1,164-483 vote today. Results were certified following the counting of absentee ballots.
Local professionals, some with props such as firefighter hats, visited Pennington School for Career Day on Monday, May 20, 2024. Mount Vernon Police Department officers, firefighters and Department of Public Works employees were among the many careers represented throughout the school.
Mount Vernon community members visited Mount Vernon High School for an educational celebration of the 70th anniversary of Brown vs. Board of Education on Friday, May 17, 2024. The Mount Vernon chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) held the celebration to recognize figures who fought against segregation and to acknowledge the progress that is still needed.

Hamilton School held a Mother's Day celebration on Friday, May 10, 2024, where families completed arts and crafts together.
Pennington School hosted Muffins in the Morning, celebrating parents and guardians, on Monday, May 13, 2024. Students colored a photo and had blueberry or chocolate muffins and water or juice. Over 100 parents RSVP’d for the event. There was also surprise performance from students in second and first grade classes 2M, 2L and 1Q.
