Helen Slote Levitt, veteran TV writer, died April 3 of cancer at Encino Hospital. She was 76.

With her husband, Alfred, she became the unofficial historian of the blacklist era for the Writers Guild of America.

They were blacklisted themselves for many years.

They wrote under the pseudonyms Tom and Helen August, and later lead the guild’s campaign to restore accurate credits to films from that era.

They wrote TV episodes during the 1960s and 1970s for “All in the Family, “”The Ghost and Mrs. Muir,””Bewitched,””That Girl,””The Brady Bunch,””The Donna Reed Show,””The Bing Crosby Show,””The Danny Thomas Show” and “Father Knows Best.”

Helen Levitt helped found the Actors’ Lab in the early ’40s and served as its secretary-treasurer for several years.

At the time of her death, she was chairing a committee for the USC School of Film & Television to memorialize the blacklist-era writers.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, she is survived by two children and two grandchildren.
