Second-place jockey in Kentucky Derby fined for touching another horse during race
The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission has handed down a fine to the second-place jockey in the 150th Kentucky Derby,
Following Derby 150, a film review was ordered for jockey Tyler Gaffalione, who road second-place Sierra Leone in the race. This came after the Stewards ruled immediately after the race that there were no incidents that impacted results.
After the Stewards completed their film review of Gaffalione, they found that he made contact with third-place finisher Forever Young as they neared the finish line.
The Stewards are fining Gaffalione $2,500 for touching the other horse. It does not change the results of the race.
Gaffalione is required to pay the fine within 30 days of the ruling, otherwise he could face suspension.
Kentucky Derby 150 ended with a three-way photo finish, with Mystik Dan beating out Sierra Leone and Forever Young by a nose. He won with a time of 2:03.34.
