Badlands
The Minecraft Badlands biome, also known as the Mesa biome, is one of the rarest and most unique biomes in the game. They take on the appearance of orange-and-brown canyons with different layers of Terracotta, with a topping on Red Sand. Badlands are the only places in the game where Terracotta can be found naturally, and are present in vast quantities. Gold Ore can also be found here, far above the depths they normally generate at, and Mineshaft structures can be entered from the surface to access some of it.
While visually quite striking, Badlands are considered poor places to establish a home because of how barren they are: two of the three variants don't get trees, there's very little water, and Teracotta isn't useful outside of a decorative building material. Further, the often extreme elevation changes make them very difficult to navigate, and two of the variants are completely devoid of passive mobs like Sheep, Chickens, Pigs and Cows.

Badlands Variants
There are two variants to the Badlands biome:
Wooded Badlands | Eroded Badlands |
---|---|
Wooded Badlands are like the normal Badlands biome, but have Oak Trees growing on their upper levels thanks to a, extra layer of Grass and Coarse Dirt. While this does offer a source of wood, the lack of passive mobs means you'll have to get farm animals elsewhere. | A much more extreme version of Badlands, Eroded Badlands have extremely tall structures known as hoodoos. This makes them harder to navigate, but an upshot is that passive mobs can spawn here in the Bedrock Edition of the game. |
