All over: CSK secure eight-run victory

A six-fest from both teams and a victory for the visitors - CSK and RCB play out another humdinger at the Chinnaswamy. RCB were in with a real chance to snare down CSK's third-highest IPL total when Maxwell and Du Plessis were in the middle but once they fell, the pressure was back on RCB. Dinesh Karthik took some of it onto himself but as he fell, the game began to slip away from the home side's grasp. Suyash Prabhudessai dragged it to the final over but Matheesha Pathirana did well in the final over to deny RCB a late win.

RCB after 15: 170/4

The chase is now over to Dinesh Karthik. Faf du Plessis followed Maxwell back to the hut at 62 off 33 balls, leaving an out-of-sorts Karthik and the remaining line-up to chase 57 off the last five overs.

Massive wicket: Glenn Maxwell is gone

Maheesh Theekshana has struck. Maxwell went for a wild swipe and got a leading edge go really high. MS Dhoni came forward, called for the catch, asked everyone else to move out of the way and completed the catch. Maxwell walks off for a 36-ball 76, with 3 fours and 8 sixes.

Halfway stage: RCB 121/2 in 10 overs

Incredible, incredible hitting from Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell keeps RCB in the chase here. What a treat the Chinnaswamy crowd are getting tonight. First CSK smashed 17 sixes on their way to a 226/6 and now these two RCB stalwarts are taking the chase to the opposition. They've got 23 and 24-ball fifties. It still feels like CSK are a wicket away from sealing this game but they look nowhere close to picking it.

PowerPlay: RCB 75/2

What a chase so far. They lost Kohli and Lomror early and yet got their best PowerPlay total of the season. Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell have absolutely obliterated the CSK bowlers, particularly Akash Singh and Tushar Deshpande.

RCB in soup...

Mahipal Lomror is gone for a four-ball duck. Tushar Deshpande bowled a length ball outside the offstump and Lomror just tried to swing across the line. He edged the ball instead which went straight to Ruturaj Gaikwad at point.

Virat Kohli OUT first over!

Oh, look away RCB fans! Virat Kohli, who walked out with the idea of throwing his bat around (like, he had a choice in such a big chase) but has played one onto the stumps. The ball hit his leg off an inside edge and then rolled onto the stumps to knock one bail out, sending Akash Singh into a big celebration. And why not? Kohli is gone.

Innings break: CSK 226/6

Incredible hitting all through the innings - that's the only way to describe what CSK have pulled off here. They've hit from start to finish, with just the hitter changing every now and then. Rahane started it off, Conway and Dube took on the baton through the middle and then Moeen and Jadeja wrapped it up to take CSK to their massive total. Nothing went right for the RCB bowlers on the night, but they are also to blame for bowling so many slot balls to allow the batters to hit sixes. CSK smashed a total of 17 sixes on their way to their third highest IPL total.

CSK fly through the middle: 165/2 in 15 overs

10, 16, 9, 14 and 19 - That's the runs picked in each over between 11th and 16th. Incredible hitting from Shivan Dube and Devon Conway here. Just no respite for the RCB bowlers, particularly Vijaykumar Vyshak who has been jolted after such a fine debut. He's gone for 48 runs in 3 overs.

Halfway stage: CSK 97/2 after 10 overs

That was an action packed phase where CSK ended up scoring 44 runs in just four overs. Rahane was it again but was then clean bowled by a googly from Hasaranga. Conway on the other hand keeps the boundaries coming and brings up his fifty as well. Dube has been sent in now to whack spin. CSK can definitely eye 200 after this start.

PowerPlay: CSK 53/1 in 6 overs

RCB started well with an early wicket but for the third time this season, Ajinkya Rahane has walked out and nonchalantly stamped his class and excellent strokeplay. He's gone after Vijaykumar Vyshak and Wayne Parnell to fly away to 28 off 14 balls, bringing a favourable end to the PowerPlay for his side.

Early wicket!

Ruturaj Gaikwad is gone... playing a shot he'd execute for a six 9 out of 10 times. Nothing ball from Mohammed Siraj and the CSK opener played a confident flick. But it didn't clear the 66m boundary and ended up in Wayne Parnell's hands at deep backward square leg.

TOSS: RCB opt to bowl. CSK bring in Matheesha Pathirana for the injured Sisanda Magala

Prelude - Another blockbuster, please?

It's RCB vs CSK. History and trophy-wise that's a mismatch, but there's a simmering tension and rivalry when these two teams play each other. It's a game of 'my superstar is better than your superstar'. Our man at the game, Kaushik R, writes in his preview that the anticipation for this game has been off the charts, perhaps because this could be the last time out in the same game for the two aforementioned superstars. Yes, Dhoni and Kohli are the superstars.

MS Dhoni has ruled at the Chinnaswamy over the years but he comes back as a very different, and dare we say, a diminished batter. But he's had two interesting outings in this season so far where he gave the Chepauk crowd the opportunity to bring the roof down with hysteria. Can he do that again? Well, why not. He tormented Corey Anderson in the company of Ambati Rayudu in an incredible chase in 2018 and then got his highest-ever IPL score in 2019, only to be flummoxed by a Umesh Yadav cutter on the final ball. All said and done, the CSK skipper has often made the Bangalore stadium seem smaller than it already is so brace yourselves, in case it gets to him tonight.
