Lachlan Lam is on the radar of a number of clubs after his impressive stint at the Leigh Leopards.
Since signing for the club in 2022, Lam has excelled and led the club to promotion and a historic Challenge Cup triumph at Wembley last August.
Lam kicked the winning drop goal to carry the Leopards to Cup glory over Hull KR, writing his name into the record books as he also claimed the Lance Todd Trophy as Man of the Match.
Unsurprisingly the former Sydney Roosters playmaker is attracting attention as a huge turnover of players continues to take place at the Leigh Sports Village.
Captain John Asiata has agreed terms with Hull FC next season, with reports suggesting Oliver Holmes and Zak Hardaker are set to following him to the Black and Whites for 2025.
The difference between those players and Lam though is that he is contracted until the end of 2025 at Leigh, having signed a new contract with the Leopards just prior to the Challenge Cup Final last year.
This means a club wanting Lam would have to pay a transfer fee, with Leigh owner Derek Beaumont and head coach Adrian Lam, who is the father of Lachlan, likely to be desperate to keep their star half-back.
Two clubs lead race for Leigh Leopards star Lam
Despite being under contract, there are clubs out there able to afford Lam. Whether that’s a transfer fee or his salary, the majority, if not all, of the teams in the NRL have the financial power to lure the 26-year-old back to Australia.
According to Zero Tackle, Canterbury Bulldogs and Gold Coast Titans are the two clubs leading the way for Lam, with the Papua New Guinea international now in the prime of his career.
Lam, who was born in Sydney, was attracting interest from the Parramatta Eels last season, but with the Bulldogs and Titans in desperate need of half-back options, they are now the two clubs in pole position.
Prior to joining Leigh, Lam played 31 times in the NRL for the Roosters between 2019 and 2021. He was the club’s first-choice stand-off during his final year at the club before he fell down the pecking order.
However, having impressed during his time in Super League and gained valuable big-game experience, it seems unlikely Leigh will be able to keep hold of their key man if one of the NRL’s big-hitters come calling with a knockout offer.
