Yam Concepcion, the leading lady: Let’s trace her triumphant steps to primetime stardom

Feisty Kapamilya star Yam Concepcion is at the height of her stardom as she aces role after role offered to her. We don’t see her backing down any time soon as we await more of her exciting projects, most especially her upcoming leading role in the love triangle teleserye Init Sa Magdamag

The journey Yam had gone through to land such spectacular roles was an uphill climb. She worked her way through the showbiz ladder and delivered amazing performances time and again to gain her well-deserved recognition today.

Let’s look back on the talented actress’ career through the years through this PUSH Evolution video feature.

Making her mark

Yam began gaining traction in her career after she starred with a daring role in Erik Matti’s 2012 thriller drama film “Rigodon.”

Her tenacity shined through as, soon after, she got cast as the star of the 2013 drama serye Dugong Buhay where she played the love interest of the two leading men portrayed by Arjo Atayde and Ejay Falcon.

These two projects set Yam Concepcion on the map, opening her up to several most acting opportunities.

Exploring her versatility as an actress

The Kapamilya actress started taking on various roles in Kapamilya teleseryes since then. In 2014, she played Kayla in Pure Love, a primetime teleserye based on a Korean drama of the same name.

Yam obtained astounding praise from several viewers as they witnessed her impressive acting playing different roles on a couple of episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya and dramatizations on Ipaglaban Mo

Even in her minor roles, she still manages to catch viewers’ attention such as her short appearance as Bianca in All Of Me back in 2015 and her supporting role as Lena in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano in 2017.

Slowly, the roles offered to her became more and more challenging such as her major part as Lala on the 2016 family drama Langit Lupa and her role as Alex in the 2019 iWantTFC romance series “Uncoupling” with co-star Joseph Marco.

Proving her talent in fierce roles

As Yam seems to shine in playing bida-kontrabida and complex characters, her following projects highlight that talent of hers.

Halik, the 2018 romance teleserye packed with emotion, adultery, and secrets, have become one of Yam’s notable projects. Her portrayal of Jade, a woman trapped in a loveless marriage and a twisted affair, was all the talk on social media during the show’s air. The fans loved and hated her character, which only evidences Yam impeccable acting.

Now known to have a knack for fierce roles, especially one where she’s entangled in a complex love story, Yam’s next big project was Love Thy Woman in 2020. Alongside Kim Chiu who played Jia Wong and Xian Lim who played David Chao, Yam joined to intensify the story’s family and love conflicts as Dana Wong, Jia’s half-sister and David’s second love interest.

Setting herself as a captivating leading lady

Finally, the spotlight is on Yam. This April 19, the anticipated drama Init Sa Magdamag will premiere,  where she stars with Gerald Anderson and JM De Guzman. Her character Rita Macatangay-Alvarez will be torn between a past and a present lover. Their lives don’t only clash in love, but also in their political and personal affairs.

After years of taking on supporting and kontrabida roles, Yam has evolved into an experienced actress sure to wow us as a leading lady for this teleserye. The only thing we can look forward to now is how she will bring Rita Macatangay-Alvarez to life!
