Swansea is near St. Louis MO which is home to many reputable hospitals and awesome sports teams---the Cardinals and the Blues. I have received a great education at Wolf Branch Elementary School and Belleville Township HS East. I feel safe in my neighborhood and community.
It's very boring here and there's not lots to do, considering it's unfortunate Midwest location. The upside is that it's near St. Louis, where there's lots to do. The arch, the city museum, the science center, and the zoo are just some of the many STL attractions. Another good thing about Swansea is that it's relatively safe and has good schools. The crime here is very low. I've lived here for 12 years in a residential neighborhood and have not had any issues. No break-ins, robberies, shootings, etc. One of the best schools in the district are in the area, Wolf Branch and Wolf Branch Middle. Swansea is also only a 4 hour drive from Illinois largest city of Chicago, where there's beaches on lake Michigan, hopping nightlife, 5-star hotels, great restaurants, and the famous Navy Pier. Overall, Swansea itself is not very entertaining, but it's a calm, quiet place to live with a mixture of cornfields and surrounding cities.
Swansea is a very small town. I am a military kid so traveling was always apart of my family. Of all the places I have been to Swansea is the smallest town we've ever lived in.
Swansea was once part of Belleville Illinois until they broke off from Belleville Illinois. Their nursing homes are dirty filthy rat holes they do not care about the senior citizens nor the disabled. It is the town you pass through to get to Fairview or O Fallon which of course were once part of Belleville as Shiloh was. Everyone came from East St Louis Illinois moved to Belleville then Swansea it is like you trash talk Belleville but do not want to pay taxes for services
We are in close proximity to all the surrounding cities. We are also close to all the fun in St. Louis. The price of homes isn't too bad. Property tax in Illinois is pretty high but Swansea isn't as high as some of the surrounding areas. It is a small city so it's kept up pretty well. The city is very clean and the is every emergency service close by. There are a lot of urgent cares and hospitals, not to mention the awsome hospitals in st. louis.
I love Swansea, IL! I have lived here all my life and couldn't imagine living anywhere else! It is a cute, small town just next to Belleville, IL. Nobody knows it, but Swansea is the place to be.
Swansea is quiet and grey. There is no nightlife. I guess it is safe for that reason alone. It looks depressing in the fall and often times in the winter when the snow has yet to fall. In the summer and spring however the trees are lush and the cornfields are full and beautiful. That really may be the only thing to look forward to in swansea. Downtown Belleville is not that far away, however. If you are looking for something to do, that is certainly where you will end up. I would say that the neighborhood is great for older individuals, both single and married. There are a few grocery stores that are not too far. The town lacks walk-ability so I would still reccomend a vehicle.
Its quiet, friendly and close to everything. I bike to work and school and to the gym. I love the rural setting.
Swansea is a wonderful small town to raise children. It is nestled between various larger towns such as Belleville and Fairview Heights and is not too far from St. Louis, Missouri, so there is never a shortage of things to do or explore. I have only lived here a few years, but I love it!
