Runs under the Old Bridge

The Neckar runs underneath the Old Bridge in Heidelberg.

Its a 362-kilometre-long river in Germany., a tributary of the Rhine River.

Around the river are some lovely historical building perched on the hill.

Its a favourite location for river cruise boats.

Cutting a ribbon through Old Heidelberg!

The Neckar River cuts through the historic city of Heidelberg, creating a beautiful scene with old buildings flanking both sides of the river. Best viewed from the Old Bridge or from above at the castle.

lovely walk along and across the river

The Neckar river banks create a beautiful, picturesque and scenic route lending themselves to nice romantic walks. Every step of the way one can admire beautiful views, examples of interesting architecture and enjoys pleasant atmosphere of this old University town and its river.

lovely for river trip

Trip on the Liselotte river cruise. beautifully clean boat with bar and tables and waiter service! Crew really friendly.. 10 euros for 50 minutes. is a great price. Table on on top deck so get great views. Recorded commentary in English, French and German

This river sides are beautiful and picturesque, great for pictures as populated by tourist attractions such as bridges or castle views but also stunning villas.

The Neckar is as cute as rivers come, close to the similarly romantic Mosel. So this area is ideal for a romantic, or just relaxing vacation.

Castle tour and great lunch

We had a Blast at the historic castle. We did the pay tour of the inside of the very well preserved renascence era Elector castle. It was well worth the admission. The tour guide was fantastic, we learned so much. I would recommend it to families with or without small children. The Cafe had plenty of offerings for everyone and all of our choices were delicious.

Relaxing

We took a boat trip down the river and back from Heidelberg, which I'd thoroughly recommend. It was interesting to see the locks in operation and there is plenty to see en route.

So much beauty and culture here! We stayed in Heidelberg and took a boat upriver to the small towns. I could live here! One of my favorite places I've been in Europe!

Cycling the River Neckar

Having tried the Donnau (Danube) and Mosel rivers I think the Neckar cycle path surpasses both of these. Much quieter, but stunning scenery largely away from built up areas (a short section through Stuttgart less attractive). Quiet cycling on tarmac or gravel paths. Lovely towns with plenty of places to stay, good food and hospitality. As a bonus you can end the ride in Heidelberg which is a beautiful university town with a real cosmopolitan feel. Thoroughly recommended
