The Toronto Raptors have reportedly filled one of their two empty roster spots.

With Justise Winslow and Mouhamadou Gueye back in the G League, Toronto has signed DJ Carton to a 10-day contract, Shams Charania reported Wednesday.

Carton is a 6-foot-3 point guard who has spent most of the season playing for the Iowa Wolves, the G League affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He's played in 29 games this season for the Wolves, averaging 18.6 points and 5.7 assists with 1.6 steals per game. Efficiency wise, he's shooting 39.5% from three-point range on 4.4 three-point attempts per game and has an impressive 60% effective field goal percentage, a stat that accounts for the extra weight of three-point shots.

The 23-year-old Carton went undrafted in 2021 after playing his college career at Ohio State and Marquette. He has yet to appear in any NBA action in his career.

Toronto will give Carton a look for the next five games through the start of next month. It's unlikely he gets much playing time with the Raptors but he'll get an opportunity to prove himself during practice reps over the next 10 days.

He provides a little insurance for Toronto should Immanuel Quickley need some time off. The loss of Dennis Schröder at the trade deadline has left Toronto depleted in the backcourt. Carton should join Markquis Nowell and Javon Freeman-Liberty as reserve options behind Bruce Brown Jr. off the bench.

The Raptors still have one open roster spot that can be filled.
